Not sure how I just noticed now, but it was a very rainy day and I was SHOCKED :wtf: to see just how many bags, nice bags too...get completely drenched in the rain. Meanwhile, I was carrying a small clutch under my jacket.
I do have faux leather bags for rainy days but it is not always an option so I do use plastic shopping bags too for protection.
What do you do on rainy days and does it make you cringe to see rained on bags?

I've lived in Oslo and Glasgow, and currently Seattle which are all cities known for being rainy, so I make sure to only buy leather bags that can handle rain and won't be stained by it. Bags that can't handle weather seem pretty useless to me, after all you carry them mostly outside!

The only bag I own that I wouldn't bring out in the rain would be my Givenchy Pandora in pepe, since I'm not sure how lambskin hold up in rain and I don't want to find out. I've been lucky enough to not get caught in the rain with it yet, but if it happens I'll probably carry it under my jacket.

I think the only bags of mine that haven't gotten a good soaking yet are Mulberry Ledbury in Olive (light green) and Longchamp Roseau - the rest of my bags have been drenched and are doing fine. Ledbury goes under my jacket to prevent waterstaining and Roseau usually gets to wear my scarf or shawl whenever we get caught in the rain.
I only buy bags that can take any weather - I used to feel sorry for other people's abused bags, but now I know t's not something I can influence so just let it go...

Oh wow, I must be a total oddball then :wondering:huh:...

I do have some bags that would likely do okay in rain, but I think they are still better off not wet and I tend to use an unbrella too when it rains. Then some bags are not very practical or sturdy, mostly just pretty ;)

If I could use an umbrella, I would! Most rainy days here are also very windy, I gave up on umbrellas sometime in Glasgow, the only thing that keeps me dry nowadays is my hooded rain coat. Why do I keep ending up in these places, ha! If I lived somewhere with a milder climate my bag tastes might have been different, but for now I think contemporary brands that can handle a beating is the only thing for me.

Ironically, while none of my bags show any sign of wear or damage from rain, I've had a couple bags get stained from sunscreen rubbing off my arms in summer...

I carry a plastic bag in my purse in case I get caught in rain! This is for my good leather bags. Wouldn't dare let them get soaked! When it rains and I can plan, I use either canvas, epi or saffiano bags.

Could you choose any rainier places, I don't think so

Well, I wouldn't let it soaked, but wet handbags become dry after a while. And if they can't withstand even just a bit of moisture, I won't buy it; too much weather issues around where I live, to constantly worry about that kind of thing.

I have never had a problem in rain, snow, etc. with my handbags. I don't let my bags get soaked (I'm actually pretty particular about my bags) but I've never given this a lot of thought. And, no offense to anyone who has one but the bag raincoats look a little silly to me. On a rainy day,I just choose a bag that I don't have to worry about.

I had a bag made for me in lambskin and I asked the creator about taking it out in the rain. She said that lambskin actually has a lot of lanolin (natural oils) in it already so it should be fine.
I took her at her word and used my bag that very day during some pretty heavy rain. When we got inside the restaurant I looked at my bag and thought "Oh no, my bag is ruined!"

It had many rain spots on it but in 5 minutes they had all dissipated so no worries here for me with my lambskin bag.
For those who are truly worried there are many great products on the market to use as a rain/water protector.......they work extremely well.

Most of my leather bags are fine in the rain. I don't stand in the rain until my bags are soaking wet but a little rain or wet snow are fine, quick walk from car to door. I'm more concern about road salt that my city uses during the winter.
Some leather are completely fine with bath.
