Hello all,

I'm having a weird issue with my brand new mini Marmont in the white. I've literally worn it for the first time today, with an all white outfit, and there seems to already be some discolouration on the bag (I'll insert a picture, I hope you can see).

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem with recent purchases at Gucci and, if so, what to do?

Thank you in advance for your time and help!

Were you wearing white denim by any chance? The supple leather gets abraded with coarse fabrics like denim. Even summer linen materials from lower end brands can be quite scratchy on leather.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I was, but I was only warned against dark materials by the SA - for colour transfer, mainly - never against denim precisely or any specific material. Do you think they may take it back? Is there anything that can be done to remedy it?
It seems quite extreme to me because I wore it crossbody for a whole of 10 minutes today and that seems like such a short time for it to look so worn out! The rest of the day, I had it tucked against my arm against a cotton/linen blend shirt.

You can bring it back and see, but I have a feeling that they will claim that this is normal wear and tear, especially because the leather is smooth and delicate, so it is normal to show this type of wear if abraded by denim. It's worse when worn cross-body because the bag bounces up and down with regular walking motion more than if it was worn over the shoulder. The bouncing motion rubs the back of the bag even more. It also rests on the fabric of your jeans more if it is worn cross-body, which increases abrasion.

Not all denim is created the same, either. Some denim fabrics are much softer, with plenty of stretch. Softer denim fabrics won't be so abrasive against your bag. Thankfully the wear is on the back of the bag, so if Gucci doesn't offer to repair it, then at least it won't be visible when you wear it.

I do understand what you're saying, but I feel like for (honestly) having worn it 10 minutes maximum against white denim it is a lot of damage. Yes, it's on the back, but now I'm just super worried about how fragile this bag actually is.

Are you within your 30 day window from purchase?

Yes, I am within my 30 day window of purchase! Does that help/work in my favor?

Ok, update: I managed to get the black off with a damp cloth, but I still went to the store this morning. Because it's August, none of my SA's superiors were present, so she couldn't do anything herself. However, she did find the whole thing very odd (white denim should not cause any problems of the sort on a white bag) and told me to continue wearing it (carefully) to see if it happens again. I'm supposed to go back to them early September if this keeps happening and then they'll help me take care of it for sure (I still got her to inscribe on her card that I came today for future reference). I hope it was a momentary fluke!

Thank you all for your time and help on this!

If anyone has a similar problem in the future, go to the store and have them take a look at your bag!

I'm surprised there was black dirt at the back! At least that part cleaned off.

The SA was very surprised too and said she's never seen this happen before. Which is why she advised me to try wearing it again just to see if it's a recurring issue or not. I cannot explain it at all, it can't be from the clothing and I kept the bag against me all day long...!

Thank you again for your time and help!
