for those of you following my pathetic saga ;) I have some news.

There has been a stone selected. It's the first one we considered....then we found out the price. And that was off the table. We learned that there likely wouldn't be a similar stone with a slightly lower color coming in ANYTIME soon, because we learned they are not buying rough with such high clarities anymore .... so as soon as we finish paying the (substantial) price difference between the returned stone and this, we will have it! :yahoo:

I know it's EGL cert--EGL USA specifically--but they tend to run strict on their grading of clarity. It might be softer on the color but the clarity is nice. So maybe it's really a VVS2 ;)

Very pretty....personally I am VERY uncomfortable with EGL USA's grading especially with clarity. I looked at a 2.55 radiant cut E color diamond that was supposed to be VS1. I received it and it had a HUGE black carbon splotch right in the middle of the stone that anyone within 10 feet could see. The stone was obviously an "I1" or worse in clarity. The spot was not even listed on the EGL USA report either.

Good Old Gold has a good and solid reputation though, they should be very honest with you when you ask if it is graded soft or not. Just remember that there is probably a reason it is a "steal." It is most likely slightly lower on the grading in actuality than if it had been sent to GIA for grading.......in diamonds, there is almost always a reason for lower prices. The economy though, is making their prices plummet like never before.......that is a good thing for us buyers!:D

Beautiful stone! I would trust GOG to only stock pretty nice stones, so I wouldn't worry about the grading. You could always have it certified by AGS if you wanted.

I have an EGL that I believe to be accurately graded as well. I trust GOG to find you something you love and this stone is stunning. Can't wait to see the final pics.

Setting is already done, it's a simple 6prong cathedral in plat :)

I am not sure where I implied it was cheaper...it's most surely not a "steal", I don't think there were any cuts in this stone along the way, though boy I would have liked that! While we got lucky with the pay-in-full--wire-transfer discount, it's still several thousand over our budget and over what a lower clarity would be. We just learned that this company is not buying rough above SI1 anymore. So if we wanted a VS clarity we had only a few to choose from. So we upped our budget to pick up our original choice prior to finding out the price.

I have several of my GIA grading classes under my belt so I can usually read this stuff pretty well and if, when I get it, it's not clean enough to be a VS1, then Ill know it was soft. Jon said he normally doesn't buy/sell EGL stones unless he hand picks them and agrees with their rating, but in my experience, and that of both appraisers I use, EGL-USA tends to actually be harsher on clarity, harsher than GIA even. Their color grading tends to be looser but not usually too far off. My stolen diamond was an EGL-USA also and both appraisers said that there was no way it was that low even with the natural being visible.

I have considered sending to GIA for a re-grade because I don't personally trust AGS to be dead-on in anything other than cut quality grading. But for now I am content. EGL-USA doesn't typically scare me. If this had been GIA graded it would have been easily another $1,000+ out of our budget and would not be considered.

That stone is stunning!!!!
