Discovered that I would like to buy a simple 24k band ring to wear. As 24k gold is softer than the usual 14 and 18 that I usually wear, any tips?
I would like to wear it everyday, or most days. I work in an office so I don’t see myself banging it much. Can I stack it with other karats or will that wear it down? I was thinking my right ring finger so it doesn’t get bumped as much as it would as it might possibly on my pinky or index finger. I was looking at some 1.5 and 2 mm bands.
Or is this a terrible idea?

Funny, I typically don’t look at random new posts, but tonight I saw yours! I have some 24k gold ( yellow gold) including rings, yes, you can have 24 k gold band rings, thin or thick, can have it made as open or close. In older times, 24 k yellow gold rings worn as wedding rings. Normally don’t wear it stacked with other rings, but it’s your ring, you may wear it anyway you like.

My mother has a 22k ring that she has worn daily since her teen years (close to 60 years). The center design has a large dent in it from being whacked on something years ago, but otherwise is fine. You might want to compromise on 22k rather than 24. Might be just a bit more stable. Not sure I'd stack either one though as I'd be afraid the softer metal would not do well rubbing/bumping against another ring.

That said, I have no experience with 24k rings so can't speak to the wear. I'm interested in hearing the experience of others with experience in 24k jewelry.

In my culture (and I think in many other Asian cultures), we don't use carat/karat as a measurement, rather a percentage.
I have some 99% gold pieces but I basically never wear them (a little sad :crybaby: because they are quite unique and I love them).
Most of them are in bracelets and necklaces. I used to wear some of the chain bracelets here and there but the closure for them is literally pushing the clasp apart and pushing it back together because its so soft.

I have one 99% gold ring, which is from my Chinese wedding. My husband and I basically only wore them on our wedding day. I pulled mine out recently to actually wear it, and I think I've been wearing it almost every day for about 3 weeks and it is already showing wear. I expected this though. (will probably give it a break soon)
I actually wear it on my right ring finger (because my left ring finger has my e-ring and American wedding band) and I have it stacked with 2 silver rings as stoppers (because my fingers have shrunken a little and the gold ring is a bit loose).
This is one of the few pieces I do not shower with nor do I sleep with.
I do wear adjacent rings next to it a couple of times a week, do not recommend if you want to minimize wear and tear.

If you like, I can take photos of my ring with my husband's ring. He's maybe worn it 1-2 other times other than the wedding day so it's a good comparison of 3 weeks of daily wear vs no wear.

I noticed that the 18k ring that I wear every day has some nice scratches and it is already a bit out-of-round after a few years. Yes....it's pretty, but in actuality, I am going to stick with 10k just so that I don't have to worry.

Okay so here you go!

His still had hairline scratches from just wearing for 2 days.
Mine is pretty beat up lol.

You can see how differently the light shines on them as well.

Btw 99% gold is very very yellow!
It definitely stands out way more than my 18k pieces.

(Also, sorry, please forgive my uneven nails. They broke lol.)

With regards to higher percentages of gold being more yellow, this is very true. My grandmother had several jewelry pieces that were 22-24K gold, but she didn't wear them often because someone told her they looked like cheap fakes because they were so yellow. The irony! Some people are so used to low percentages of gold in their jewelry, that they don't even recognize the more pure gold when they see it.

I wear this combo sometimes, the 3 YG are 24k. The top ring on my middle finger was my grandma's, then mom, now mine... So it's been around for over 45+ years. I have been wearing it now almost every day for the last 5 years. 24k can last if you buy a heftier, well made, style. I would go for the bigger band! Sometimes it's not the purity but the quality so I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for that dainty style.

I feel like, with any ring karat, if you do stack or wear rings next to each other, there will be wear and scratches. But I don't think too much of it and mine has been fine (it seems lol)

Would love to know where you were planning on getting your ring from?

I agree, a heftier ring would last. I was looking on this website:
