Dear all,

I've been wanting a Cartier Tank Francaise medium for quite some time now. As we live currently in Paris though I've been looking around the various high end 2. Hand watch and jewellery places here (this is heaven here!!!) anyway over the weekend my model has come up for less than half the current retail price at only 5 years old - bargain! The only drawback is that is has a date. Now for some that might be a plus but I wanted one without it as I think it kind of distorts the face of the watch? Maybe it's not such a big deal though... It's just that I've been looking a while now and would soo like to just get it and wear it and be finally done with it!
What are your thoughts on it? Really appreciate any opinions (especially the ones telling me to go and get it:)
Thanks

I wouldn't buy a watch without a date! I think it's a nice movement and very helpful. I don't look at my phone for the date or time usually, so I'm a bit of an analog person that way. You have to love it though! Good luck and please post when you get it!

I have the midsize tank without the date and I much prefer it as to me a Cartier is a jewelry watch. Unlike Rolex, this is more technical to me if that makes sense?

But you have to keep in mind that the one without date is the older model. Although mine is more than 25 years old it looks like a new one, so this has to be okay with you as you mentioned you were happy that the one you have set your eye on currently is only 5 years old.

Jut try it on and see if you like it'

Thank you for your replies.

Will do Gixxer!!

Loving Diamonds: yours were exactly my thoughts but maybe it won't be such a big deal once I "own" it? Also, I want to get the Solo in yellow gold as the dressy watch afterwards, so in a way the Francaise could get away with being a bit more functional?

The Francaise without a date still exists, you can get them with or without new at Cartier. Not sure I understood you correctly.

I'm trying to make an appointment for tomorrow and see...:)

I think if you don't get the watch you really want, you'll still really want it, therefore get w/o the date.

Of course try both. Maybe you'll like it with the date too.

Ladies, today I had an appointment at Collectors Square in Paris and this is what I came home with - soo happy :) thanks for your input xx

It's so beautiful and the date is much smaller and less obtrusive than I had imagined, I don't think it takes away from the watch At all and actually think it's a nice feature to have! Congrats!
