Watch or engagement ring upgrade?

This year we can only do one - either buy a new Rolex or upgrade my ring.

1. Rolex - I recently sold my Rolex because it was too small for me (26mm). I bought a gorgeous casual SS/black Hublot which I’m wearing daily & absolutely love. I’m on a waitlist for a 31mm datejust in SS & everose, MOP dial, diamond markers so totally different to the Hublot. The plan would be to wear my Hublot casually & my Rolex when I’m working (4 days a week). Hubby’s preference is to get the watch given the high resale value atm. My concern is that I won’t be wearing it daily & I like a good cost per wear my worry is that if I don’t buy it when it becomes available, it’ll be a very long time before I’ll get the chance to purchase it again.


2. Ring - we both hate my current engagement ring for various reasons (poor quality diamond, v small diamond at .30ct, in fixing the setting it now looks clunky). I’d be upgrading to a bigger diamond & entirely new shape & setting (pear, micro halo). I’m leaning towards this as I’ll wear it daily & unlike the watch - I don’t have an alternative that I love. My set would look something similar to this:

as I read your post, it seems to communicate that it makes more sense to do the Rolex, but you will feel better upgrading the ring, so I vote the ring.

for me personally, I might do the Rolex just bc it’s so hard to get right now. And, the longer you wait on the ring, the more you can refine what you want and figure out the upgrade. Note: you can always upgrade the ring

but either decision will be fabulous. Congrats, cannot wait to see!

I would go with the ring upgrade. I do love a big rolex but I’ve always wanted to have the nicest diamond ring ever. So tbh this is a personal preference.

If I could only do one, it would absolutely be the upgraded ring. I also think of things in terms of cost per use, the wedding ring would be used daily. Also as much as I love my Rolex’s, my upgraded wedding set brings me so much more joy.

Do you have a special significant anniversary coming up? Would be great to tie the ring upgrade to a special date for sentimental reasons.
tbh I would want to prioritise the ring upgrade. My (upgraded) engagement set is cherished every day. My original was a humble little clunker and when I was done … I was done! I have kept the original set though, as a momento and a reminder of the important things in life.

How long will you be waiting for the Rolex? Could you do ring first if the wait on the watch is going to be awhile? I’ve heard some of these list can be super long (and curious if they are real, e.g. 5 year list for a Daytona!).

I would get the Rolex first. The Rolex waitlist is currently long and uncertain, so if you are offered one in your dream specs then I’d grab it. Acquiring a Rolex before price increases would be a factor also - whereas you can always find a good deal on diamonds for your e-ring and there are plentiful choices for jewelers.

Personally, I’d choose the ring simply going by the statement that you both hate the current one. I don’t see the point of wearing something so sentimental and important as an engagement ring that you hate. You already have a watch you love and the scarcity and resale of a Rolex isn’t as important (to me, anyway) in this instance

I vote engagement ring. I upgraded mine by adding a halo a few years ago and still find myself gazing at it daily. I also sold my rolex, as I wear my apple watch exclusively, so I am not really a watch person. I feel like the ring upgrade would bring you more joy.

Put money aside for Rolex then start saving for the ring. You might end up getting the ring before the Rolex if it takes a while, but I’d wait until you have that second chunk of money. i like the idea of aligning the diamond upgrade with an anniversary.

I have nice watches that I love, but for work I wear my Apple Watch a lot more now! Because of that I say, upgrade your ring! You deserve to look down at your ring and swoon every time you see it. Good luck!

I would go with the ring upgrade. BTW...love the 2nd ring with the pave band/halo.
