Has anyone else noticed a decline in the quality of the MFF wallets lately? I only buy FP bags, but I've had a handful of MFF wallets in the past that I haven't had any complaints about. The leather was thick and supple, and they held up very well. I recently purchased a Campbell wallet (new w/tags) from an online consignment shop, and I was totally shocked at how cheap it felt and looked in person. (it was verified authentic, plus I did my own research to make sure) The leather feels and smells like vinyl. Have they gone downhill, or did I just get a dud?

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but what color was it?
The Campbell line had a really odd start .... when it first came out, it was as if there were two "tiers" within it. Some might even argue three "tiers". There was the saffiano and python bags/slgs, with really nice leather, then there was a very small, limited suede selection, and then there was another "sub-collection" with very different styles than the saffiano/python, and *that* sub-collection had thinner, and yes, 'plasticy' leather.

The saffiano/python/suede stuff is long gone, but they keep coming out with new colors in that later, thinner/plasticy leather.

I'm most familiar with the safiano/python/suede stuff that came out first, and soon disappeared.

(Then there were also some slgs in 'hematite', which was a surprisingly thick and soft leather ... but they only made two or three slgs in that, and a very small number of "Isabelle" bags ... so few hematite bags, in fact, that they never even made it to FOS to my knowledge. You just had to luck out and find a hematite bag at the outlet. Now *that* leather was also much thicker and softer, I'll even say thick and smoosy like my vintage bags. But they made so few of those hematite bags, that it was as if they were just using up a pile of 'leftover' 'hematite' leather they had lying around from something else.)

That's really interesting. I never realized there was such a difference in that specific style. The wallet I have is bordeaux color and the inside is the smooth leather (not the saffiano that I've seen inside some wallets of the same design).

Yes, the bordeaux was one of the colors in the thinner, more plasticy leather. I've seen it in the outlets, and yes, I agree with you. It was also on FOS, along with a certain, rigid list of bags that they made in those thinner leathers.

The saffiano Campbell bags were in completely different styles. And the suede didn't even show up in wallets, I don't think. I *think* they made a clutch or large wristlet in the suede at one point, but like I said, the saffiano/python/suede items were very short-lived, despite being the nicer leathers in the line. (Much nicer hardware too, on the saffiano items. Many people, looking at the Campbell items now, would probably never peg the saffiano items as part of the same collection -- they're that different.)

But anyway, if you have bordeaux leather, then yes, it's not as nice of a leather. Your eyes are not deceiving you. :)

Thanks for the info! I had no idea there were such variances within the same line. I think next time I consider any MFF purchases I'm going to make sure I can do it in person.

The leather in the wallets varies widely. I've found the nicest ones were the ones that were remakes of the FP line, otherwise the quality is hit or miss.
The best are the FP wallets that have gone to the outlets, they can be discounted down to 75% off.
