I always wanted a Vintage Kelly but I don't know how much they should really cost. Sometimes I have seen consignment stores post higher prices for the vintage bags than bags from 7 years ago. Realistically would a Kelly 32 in a rouge/reddish tone makes sense to cost? I live in Canada so please state USD or wherever you are from. Merci :flowers:

It's a how long is a piece of string question.

Firstly, you have to let go of the notion that a bag should cost less than it did new 7, or 10, or 50 years ago. The pre-loved market SOLD average is what you need to look at and the figures need to be current. You can find actual figures from each resale company like Collectors Square, generally unaffiliated commentators who think they can track every sale globally are expressing a personal opinion, but we all know (in this forum at least) that Ks have definitely gone up in the pre-loved market more than they have retail percentage-wise in the last 7 years. 10 years ago it was all about the Birkin, now Kellys are atm equally (wel, almost) coveted.

You have to make sure you factor-in buyer's premium (auction houses) tax, duties, shipping etc. These can easily be 20-30% on top.

It depends on condition
Depends on size (small is fashionable at the moment)
Depends on Retourné v Sellier (Sellier are usually higher new and preloved)
It depends on where you're looking
Red/reddish is on average one of the most popular (and therefore most expensive) colours

I regularly look for vintage Box Kelly’s on eBay. The Rouge H/Bordeaux type colors in a size 32 can range from $7K-$13K on average(going off the top of my head). I can only speak for the eBay pricing I see as I don’t really check auction houses.

Agree with this. During Covid, I picked up a Bordeaux 32K sellier, rabbit ear phw for about 4K USD. I added about 10% customs and state sales tax as it was purchased from a Japanese reseller. It had some cosmetic suntanning damage which I had corrected by third party professional spa. I also had the hw brushed, plus insured fed ex to and from spa services. Probably about an extra +2K that I planned for in advance. Well worth it. During Covid, i also saw a 35K dark gray box retourne K, phw, from fashionphile for 4K usd, but I do not believe prices will dip that low again.

ETA: I find UK and europe to be higher priced than either the US or Asia for vintage B/K.

I hate customs and fees..if only they wouldn't charge it on used items. I can comprehend new, but vintage or used doesn't make sense
