Vintage hardware question

I have been reading so many conflicting things regarding the gold hardware

Can anyone confirm does it tarnish with age?

Can the tarnish be polished off?

Some spot the fakes say an authentic Chanel should never tarnish but some bags authenticated have discoloured hardware, Im confused

I would think it would depend on where & how you have the bag stored. The hardware is plated, so more at issue is the plating wearing off. I have a vintage flap with ghw and it's still super shiny and very gold with no evident wear.

I was afraid of the gold rubbing of the newer purses, so I bought silver hardware.

I have a vintage ghw and the turnlock gold plated got scratched off when i was walking too near the shelves. But other than that man-made error, the chains and the CC are looking perfectly good.

There will only be gold plating loss, but with care that should take 10-15 years (like the vintages do)
