Last night we went to see an excellent production of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oak Brook, IL, just west of Chicago:

We haven't been to a play since pre-pandemic and it was great to go out again and enjoy a performance and we had so much fun! The characters were dressed in terrific vintage costumes but I quickly spotted the green Coach Madison bag being worn by the actress playing Mary Debenham. She was the tormented young governess to the murdered child. Her purse was a little modern for her costume because the play is set in 1934 but it exactly matched her green suit and looked perfect with her ensemble.

The bag looked like a Gracie but a little bigger, but smaller than a Copley. There was no hangtag and she was carrying it top handle without a long strap, but I was thinking that it might be a Biltmore 4417, see the catalog picture below next to a Gracie. I don't have a Biltmore but I thought that it looked a similar size to my Grammercy Top Handle Satchel 7002 - but it was definitely a Madison turnlock bag.

Unfortunately the production ends on October 23 but if anyone in the area gets a chance to see it (@Hyacinth?) please let me know if you agree with my identification - besides having a great evening out!

I had no idea this was produced as a play; loved the movie version with David Suchet.
And how neat to recognize the bag they used!

I loved the book and the movie and this theatrical production was fantastic!

I wish that I had gotten a picture of the actress carrying the vintage Coach Italian Madison bag, but before the performance started the announcer asked everyone to "turn off phones and noise-making devices" and he said that taking photos or videos was not allowed. So I had turned off my phone and put it inside my own coach purse, but I wish that I had tried to snatch a photo because the bag looked great with her vintage suit!

Thanks for the recommendation.

We haven't been to any plays, concerts or other live performances since BC, Before Covid. So I'll have to give that one a pass at least until we're eligible for the Omicron booster.

I also loved the book and the Suchet TV version on PBS, AND the 1974 film with Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman and Sean Connery (AMAZING cast!). The Kenneth Branagh version, not so much - Ken, when we're talking about the Little Belgian's moustache, more is not necessarily better.

Suchet is still the quintessential Poirot for me.
