Question for you experts. Have you all seen “veining” or “wrinkles” in Chamonix leather (2013)? These are visible in the front of the bag only. Is this normal, occasionally present or result of water stain/damage? I just bought this bag preloved and wanted your thoughts. Debating if I should keep or not. I haven’t sent it in for authentication. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

I have only one bag in Chamonix leather and my bag does not have this veining. I have never seen a Chamonix leather with this veining.
Good luck with your decision making!

@Digitiminimi I unfortunately don’t have much knowledge of chamonix but perhaps post on docride’s Lazarus thread and see if she would be able to provide any guidance? Otherwise it’s a beautiful bag with the unique guilloche hardware!

Thank you for your input. I’ve done a full forum search and there was one that mention veining in their Chamonix. Several posts also refer to Boxcalf leather with veining. I’ve had the weekend to think about the bag and its seeming imperfection. I think I’m going to pass and find another. It’s a shame because i got this during the Fashionphile 25 years promo for a good price.

Hi! I've seen this before on Box Calf, but not Chamonix-- they are practically the same though, just with slightly different leather treatments. Here is an example of this on Box Calf from @Avintage:

I would not worry too much about it unless you personally don't like the look. The guilloché hardware is a pretty neat addition, as well! It's always a good idea to ask @docride about specific leather care information. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

Hi
What a beautiful bag !! I love the striations… to see this the leather has translucency…which is a sign of its high level of quality. Congratulations!
Enjoy !

Hi Doc,

Do the striations in Chamonix leather also indicate a high level of quality? Or does this only apply to Box leather? Thanks for your input.

My BBK also has these marks. I was surprised at first, but grew to love them!

Update: I returned the bag thinking that the striation or veining were water stains. Knowing what I know now after all these comments, idk if I would have returned it. I think i would have grown to love the bag with the veining. FP relisted the bag for now over 3k more than what I had paid. It was discounted at 20% then I got it during the 25years promo for an extra 10%. 🙁 I’m optimistic that another bag will come along.

hey there ,
Great question, while striations might not be seen in in all box calf or Charmonix or unfinished ( barenia) and semi-finished leather ( vache natural, ostrich, ) seeing the striations is an indication of the leathers translucence which does indicate the high quality of the leather.
Although striations might not be seen on all leather samples , it is not considered a flaw .
I hope that makes sense ?
All the best , doc

I'll just add this in case someone searches the forums in the future, I've seen this on my swift Kelly flat as well. It's not very obvious but it's good to know it speaks of the high quality of the leather. 😃
