Can somebody please educate me on whether the MG vegetable tanned leather is the same or similar to vachetta leather (like on LV bags)? If not the same, how is it different? To me they look pretty similar and sounds like they both have the same properties (will patina, susceptible to water/stains/scratches, requires regular maintenance ). Thanks!

I have had both and I guess I would say that the MG leather doesn't start off as light. I have put leather protectant on all my pieces. I have had a cammello/canvas bucket for about 9 months and just compared the leather strap to other LV vachetta straps and they are pretty close in feel/thickness/stitching. I have brought brand new LV and treated it just the same as my bucket and they look the same. That said, I have never owned a LV piece that was all vachetta, only the straps so I can't really comment on how a leather bottom on a LV compares. Also if you see in pictures of how MG Cammello will scratch, I just looked at my bucket with the cammello bottom and there are a few scratches, the strap too. I haven't had that happen to my LV pieces. Hope this helps. 
LV vachetta is finer and better selected. MG veg tanned leather has more veining and irregularities than LV would allow. They both tan similarly and show waterstains though
