Hi beautiful people,
I have the JUC and I see so many people post differently about VCA andCartier.
Lately my jewel insurer told me that they don’t cover corrosion/mould etc on gold.

I am highly enchanted by the YG hammered bracelet and looked at some of the pics too!
however I got a bit confused so please bear with me lol.
Could anyone who owns an old YG piece let me know if it’s prone to corrossion and what type of alloy does VCA YG use, if that makes it durable.
I just want to ensure the quality and durability of the piece and to also know if it’s okay to shower, my insurer asked me to get the piece polished in some years, however are we allowed to polish the hammered motif without impacting it’s integrity or design?
I just wanted to check with such highly experienced people because I did have some issues with small JUC.Please give your 2 cents people and help me decide if the hammered piece is a lasting one ‍♀️

I have Cartier and VCA pieces including JUC. I have never nor do I expect to have any corrosion on my pieces. All 18k. If you have corrosion on your JUC you should definitely take it back to Cartier and have it replaced. That’s not good.

18k gold does not corrode. You’ll need to clean the solid gold Alhambra more often if you wear it to shower, etc. but polishing gold does remove gold, so I would only use an ultrasonic cleaner to remove dirt and soap scum. However, to keep any fine jewelry in great condition, it’s best not to wear it 24/7. Insurance does not cover normal wear and tear.

Yes I was actually in two minds about polishing, I mean it is recommended according to my insurer every 5 years or more bur I didn’t know if we could get the hammered motif polished

Hi there love! With my JUC (small) I find it a bit flimsy but that’s the only problem I have, but for VcA I just wanted to check all of your opinions out here

Your insurer is making a generalized statement about jewelry care. I have never had a gold piece of jewelry polished. You have insurance in case the piece falls off your arm and gets lost or stolen and it would be a hardship to replace it. The condition of the piece just doesn’t matter as far as replacing a lost piece of jewelry goes. If you damage one of the motifs, then you take it to VCA and pay for them to replace it. Making small insurance claims is never wise. If you make those kinds of claims, you risk having your rates go up or they could drop you.

So to just reinforce what has already said, never polish a Vintage Alhambra solid gold bracelet. Take care of it and clean it periodically in hot water and Dawn dishwashing liquid, and that’s all you need to do!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write and share your experience with me, I posted on the group post my insurer reiterated twice of having my pieces polished periodically, so far I haven’t really taken out claims but it will be good to know and keep in mind for the future!
However my last conversation with my insurer sparked this curiosity, can tarnish on gold be that bad? I thought it protects the underlying metal but was told otherwise by them
