Hi everyone!

Was hoping to get some advice. I went on a bit of a VCA spree over the last couple years. Now that I’ve settled down a bit, I’m re-evaluating my collection and would like some advice.

I actually find my fav collection is the perlee clovers; my dream is the perlee clover bracelet. But the Alhambra is magical in its own way and a bit more wearable on a day to day

Currently my collection has:
- 5 motif MOP bracelet
- 10 motif MOP necklace
- 3 motif magic earrings

I am considering selling either my 5 motif or 10 motif. I am someone who finds myself getting stressed when I own too much and I also find I value my entire VCA collection less when I have a lot.

Pros of the bracelet: easier to wear regularly, I can see the motifs ie I get the pleasure of seeing the gorgeous Pearlescent style
Cons: may get banged up easily. Also, please don’t kill me for saying this, but sometimes I wonder if the style is a bit ‘basic’ since sooo many fashion bloggers have it. I know the conventional advice is to not care what others think, but I could like to have my own personal style and not see myself coming and going, even if it is virtually

Pros of necklace: gorgeous, sits against the face so you benefit from the pearls giving you a glow
Cons: it’s very VCA in your face so sometimes a bit uncomfortable with people knowing how much I spent on it so blatantly, less casual
Question: is the necklace more aging than the bracelet?

About me: currently live a very casual style (don’t we all in pandemic world) but I aspire to be casually chic. Think nice jewels with clothes that are easily dressed up/down

I’d love your advice! Feel free to be honest and maybe I am overthinking

TL/DR: which is a better piece for a collection, 5 motif vs 10 motif MOP?

I vote bracelet, which is basic, but very wearable. If you occasionally want the look of a necklace, you can use a chain extender hidden under a collar.

I find the ten motif necklace a bit classic on the conservative side, but that is also bc the ten motif necklace does not work on my build or for my style. (I’m not super heavy, but a bit chunky for my size, and vintage motifs are too small for me).

But, please don’t be too quick to downsize your collection, bc it would be terrible to downsize and then decide you miss it and have to repurchase.

Of course, everyone is different though, and I do adore the ten motif on others (for instance @nycmamaofone rocks her onyx one)

When I first read your post I thought you had 5 bracelets and 10 necklaces and were asking which to sell to fund a perlee. My eyes!
I would keep your pieces and add the clover perlee. 4 pieces is not excessive and none of them overlap. Otherwise, for a casual lifestyle I would sell the 3 motif earrings. I do not see those as an everyday piece, whereas the bracelet and necklace are everyday and be worn so many ways - together as a 15, together as necklace/bracelet, or seperate.

+1 to this ...lol minus the 5 bracelet 10 necklace part :lol::lol::lol::lol::hugs:

I have lost counts on the times I wore different outfits to try on the 10 motif. I really want to have it to form an Alhambra collection but it seems that most of my outfits cannot incorporate well with this necklace so I give up and focus on earrings which I don't leave home without.

I feel that 5 motif bracelet is a keeper because it's easy to mix and match. You can wear it for all seasons.

If wearing 10 motif makes you feel that it's too in your face, don't be. You have every right to wear what you like. Those who don't understand the magic of vca will never understand. If making others feel uncomfortable is your only reason for letting this necklace go, I suggest keeping it and wear it more often. When you come to think about it, it's just a necklace but of course a beautiful one.

LOL thank you so much all! What interesting responses. I am a bit surprised how much love the bracelet received and well, how much people struggle with the 10 motif. Was not expecting this!! I’m going to give this a go for a few days and see if I have a similar struggle

As much as I’d like to keep all, financially I’d feel guilty if I did so (plus I have an Hermes / travel / beauty habit, so you know…I should prioritise). Btw I simply love the three motif earrings too much to let them go…even if I wear them 1x per year, they bring me great joy just to look at…

Three pieces definitely isn’t excessive especially when you have no overlap across categories ie…multiple bracelets etc. You mentioned style being basic in regards to the bracelet and that everyone has it. In my experience everyone has everything on social media however it rarely translates to real world kwim. Since the Perlee is your favorite you could sell both the necklace and the bracelet and put the funds towards a Perlee. Just know that “everyone” has this bracelet as well.

Omg this!! Maybe I need to stay off social media, but it does seem like everyone has the same style. But in my day to day, i rarely see it….ugh. Do you have any advice on how you get out of the social media vortex?

I just use various social media platforms for research and to get a visual feel for items. It’s always helpful to see the action shots and hear feedback when your considering these purchases. I find Van Cleef not to be readily accessible so these tools prevent costly mistakes or second guessing.
