Bright colors, exotics and three of the most iconic bags Valentino ever made: The Histoire and some of its variants, the Maison bag and the Glam Tote (many other bags made after this season are based upon this tote, for example: The Rosier).

If there is something Valentino is known for, apart from the bow and flower motivs, is for the brand's love for animal prints. The Maison bag was introduced a season before, and a new interpretation was done in leopard-print pony hair. I guess Valentino likes the animal prints for cold seasons.
The Fleur Satchel, another iconic bag from the house was presented in croc. There were also ruches, patent leather bags and geometric patchworks that resembled a "V".

Valentino Garavani... The genius behind his eponymous couture imperium presented his last ready-to-wear collection for the house in the season of spring/summer 2008. He, the king of feminine style and timeless elegance, the maharaja of exquisit details and everything über-chic could go for an "old classics" predictable revision, but he didn't. Instead he left his house with an eye for the new. If the colors for the spring/summer 2006 season were vivid, then this collection was a total sensory overload (in a good way). The pallet was varied and the metalics were everywhere.
This season introduced the Nuage, one of the brand's most succesfull bags, and the Couture, another iconic purse. The Blossom Satchel and the Bow Clutch were also there... but enough talk... I'll leave you with the pictures.

¡Viva Garavani!

Alessandra Facchinetti's first collection for Valentino showed how much she respected the house's timeless sensibility even when injecting her own flair.
It's difficult to get runway pictures of bags from Pre-Fall and Resort seasons, as designers don't usually include them in the presentations. At least for this season in particular, two bags were presented.
Things don't look so bright for the subsequent seasons...

If anyone has pictures of bags from any Pre-Fall and Resort seasons please post them, it would be much appreciated.

Alessandra Facchinetti's second collection was for the modern girl, yet a Valentino girl, and apparently modern girls don't wear bags and Valentino girls do not too. It was clear: Facchinetti was not into handbags at all. For sure the house made great bags for this season, but there was not a single one on the runway. I guess the new designer was just trying to focus on the clothes, at least for now, until things settled a bit. Sure being the new designer after the man himself was no easy task, but a purse or two wouldn't hurt.

Again, if anyone has pictures of bags from this season, please post them.

It seems Facchinetti got the memo: Valentino girls wear bags. Still, the runway show didn't have too many, just a few. Rosier taffeta clutches and beaded/embellished evening bags.
This was Alessandra Facchinetti's last ready-to-wear collection for Valentino, and it was beautiful. The italian girl is a great designer, but some didn't think she was enough for Maison Valentino.
