USPS Parcel Select

I just ordered something via Ebay. The seller offered free ground shipping via USPS Parcel Select. Does this really go all the way cross country via truck? or do they just call it ground and really it goes the major distance via air? sorry if this is a silly question but my item will be travelling from NJ to CA so if it's really all the way via truck, may take a while.

I'm wondering the same thing although at this point I'm guessing its traveling ground. An item I bought on ebay was shipped from CA on June 6 via parcel select to NH. At that time est delivery time was listed as June 22. I just checked tracking and it said it passed through Springfield MA facility at 10:38 am today. That's about 2 hrs from me. Est delivery date is June 14. That's 3 days from now. I paid $5.50 shipping. I don't know why they didn't call it pony express.

I think I got lucky. the seller of my item said they would use parcel select but when I got the tracking info, it was sent via Fedex.

Parcel select is the new version of parcel post and it's ground shipping. Packages going cross-country by truck can take up to 2 weeks.

I'm in Missouri and I recently received a package through ebay from California in 3 days and it was via parcel select. I thought that was very fast, but I know it's not always that fast.

It doesn't usually take that long, but you shouldn't be surprised if it does. And of course at heavy mail times of year (Christmas, Valentine's Day), it's going to be slower than other times of the year.

Actually, it's not that cheap unless you're getting into oversized and very heavy packages. For parcels under 5 lbs., I've found the price difference to be less than $2 (if there's a savings) and in some cases, parcel post is more expensive than priority. It's beneficial to crunch the numbers.

If the price difference is small, I always use priority mail for the speed.

Yes, make sense to always check and compare services and prices.

I've been lucky with sellers who were on the opposite side of the country, they posted Parcel Select, but ended up sending it Priority (not charging me more). When my handbags sell, I always send Priority Mail no matter where they are!
