i shipped something out with usps signature confirmation and the seller claims that theyve received the package, which is great. however, its been only 10 days and usps still hasnt marked the package as delivered. this isnt really an issue now, but what if i end up getting some sort of paypal dispute or chargeback if the buyer claims they never got it. is there some way to make usps update the status on their tracking code? if they never do, whats the time limit to file an insurance claim with them?

Probably just a USPS screw up. They can be so lazy. As long as she told you she got it in a message you are all good. Save the message as a confirmation on her part that it's been received.

in the case of a paypal dispute/chargeback, would they accept this as proof of delivery though? i guess im just a little paranoid since ive heard so many horror stories and this is a high ticket item.

The exact situation happened to me, when a buyer received the item, and it was not showing on tracking as delivered. As the buyer was truly an honest person, she left me positive feedback acknowledging that she was happy with transaction. I called paypal with my concern, which was the same as yours, and they told me " buyer cannot open a dispute or charge back after leaving positive feedback".
Hope that makes you feel better.
I called the post office with my concern as well and the only thing they told me was taking my receipt to a counter and get a refund for delivery confirmation fee.:amazed:

Well I suppose if the buyer was shady, they could probably file a dispute and win. However, I'd like to think that at least 90% of the people on eBay are decent, honest folk who wouldn't actually do this. Delivery confirmation can be pretty worthless, which is why I guess they require signature for anything over $250.
Although tbh, I'm thinking of all the times that I've bought/sold stuff on eBay, and I can only think of maybe one or two times that a domestic package didn't get scanned as delivered. So the combo of the DC not getting scanned + the buyer is a shady lowlife who wants to rip you off is probably quite rare and not worth getting worried about!

Is the transaction though Ebay? If so yes. When a case is escalated to a claim Ebay has the right to view all messages between the two parties and if her message says she received it then she will have no grounds for a win on that claim.

That's a common problem with USPS. They can get lax and not scan items on delivery.

Since you paid for s.c., you can take your payment/paypal receipt to the post office and get a refund for the $1.95 you paid for s.c. since they didn't perform the service you paid for.

And in fact, there are dishonest buyers who track d.c. and if it doesn't update, they take advantage of the negligence of USPS and they claim non-receipt.

It happened to me several years ago. I sent an item to a buyer (who also happened to be a reseller) who claimed non-receipt. Since d.c. didn't show receipt, I knew I'd lose a case so I just refunded her. In this case, I was pretty sure she'd received it based on the way she worded her messages.

So I added her to my "favorites" and watched her listings. Sure enough, 18 months later, she listed the item she claimed not to have received. After several back and forth emails, she finally admitted what she'd done and reimbursed me for the refund she received.

Although my experience is not common as most buyers aren't resellers, it's just one example of how a dishonest buyer knows how to work the system.

I have this problem too at the moment and actually noticed it happening more and more lately with items I bought myself.

I find it so annoying that when you go to the post office to purchase shipping in person you have to argue to get both insurance and signature confirmation labels because the person who works there doesn't understand why you need signature confirmation if you already have signature for insurance. Then it seems the "tracking" doesn't even work anyway so all that fuss is for nothing.
With this repeated argument in mind, I have a theory that the delivery person is sometimes thinking the same as the PO person i.e "crazy sender paying for two labels requiring a signature" and doesn't scan both labels on delivery, who knows?

mini rant over:)
I think you will be ok OP as she left you feedback I would see that as a good sign

Ugh, what a scumbag. I'm glad you got after her for your money. Bah, people like that make me sad.

I have 3 Parcel Post packages and 1 made it to Jersey City, but it has not arrived to buyer's destination yet. The other two are stuck in god-knows-where and last place it left was at Bell, CA. It's been over a week already and I'm sure my buyers are pretty pissed right now, even though they have not yelled at me yet. I fear for the worst!! :crybaby: I really needed this money and I am seriously slapping myself hard for not changing the shipping boxes when I had every opportunity to. Stupid stupid me. I know eventually they'll do a dispute and I'll be forced to hand over the funds thanks to USPS's (and my own) stupidity.

If I had the chance, I'd recall ALL those packages back to me, rip off all the labels and/or boxes and repack them and re-send them through Priority or FedEx ground. Swear.

But OP, you are lucky that your buyer had already claimed they received your package and left you positive feedback. So there is nothing to worry about! :flowers:

I have the same problem here. It's been showing "Delivery status not updated" for 3 days now, and I sent a message to the buyer this morning but no reply from her yet. Any suggestions of what I can do?

I have an insured w/ signature confirmation that has been sitting as "attempted/notice left" since 3 Feb. The buyer has not left me feedback or sent me a message stating they received it. Very frustrating.

I had this problem last week as well. I shipped out a $600 item and for a few days it did NOT show up as moving at all. It finally showed some movement the day it was to be delivered. I shipped the item on the 3rd and on the 7th was when info was provided on Track & Confirm. During those 4 days, I was thinking hmmm...what's going on here? It was just 4 days, but still...$600 item afterall.

Next time, anything over $200, I'm shipping with FEDEX or UPS. I've never had a tracking issue with them.

Sold a $400 bag 2 weeks ago, paid for signature confirmation, stupid me didn't buy insurance, last thing that was updated on the tracking number was "delivery confirmation not updated" and that was a few hours after "out for delivery" was posted. I'm. So. Pissed! I wish I could track down the lazy jerk who didn't collect my proof of delivery and give him a piece of my mind. Keeping my fingers as I called USPS and they promised to "investigate" whatever that means.
