if i remember correctly US customs is about 9% of your declared value, which H will declare at full price.

(my info may NOT be the most updated, but i remember searching in tpf and came across that % before)

I had a bag that was taken to Paris by a friend for a spa treatment- Hermes mailed it back to me in LA- there were no taxes/customs I had to pay. I do not recall what the customs documents said but probably something along the lines of "returned merchandise to customer". I think it all depends on how you declare it- if you fully declare it as a new bag, then you probably will have to pay taxes to clear customs here in the US. I would not risk losing it so you will have to declare the value in order to insure it.

Hermes will send it, but I get tax free if I send it to us, but if the USA custom will add tax again, than better pick it by myself?

Hermes in Paris will detax (10%) your bag before shipping it, shipping charge is application of course. When it arrives in the US, custom will add tax on it. You have to factor in air tickets, accommodation and transport as well if you go pick it up yourself.

I think you will have to declare the bag if you bring it back or if you ship it. I guess shipping it would be worth the money if you are not planning on shopping while you are there!:flowers:

And if you carry it yourself into the US, you are still obliged to declare it when you arrive.

This is true. I have gotten lucky every time though. I declared the full value and was always waved right through and never had to pay any tax on the bags I brought back. (Kennedy Airport)

But I wouldn't make a trip to pick it up just for the possibility that I would not be taxed. If it's easier to have it mailed I would have it mailed by Hermes. For me I was flying back home any way so I just carried it and declared it and was pleasantly surprised not to get taxed.

Shipping ... you will be taxed by the shipping company (Fedex ..). They will bill you .. (2/3 weeks later), however you will need to declare what's in the bag or the shipment may be stuck at customs.

I have done it both ways, also returned with a bag, as Tamarind, gotten lucky every time ... I declared the full value and was always waved right through.
