My favorite Chanel bag got some color transfer on the edges this evening. Mind you, this looks like blue dye and the purse leather color is a pink iridescent. I nearly cried seeing all the color transfer . I tried leather cleaner and conditioner without any success. Anyone recommend a leather purse doc or leather repair person in the San Diego area?

Yes.. it looks kinda shiny, but not quite patent. I'm so sad about it and don't know if there's any hope in restoring it.

Darn I'm sorry  I have a baby pink patent jumbo with color transfer on the back.. Not much could be done. But maybe there's hope for yours since it's not the typical patent. Sorry I can't recommend a place since I'm not in San Diego, but MAYBE the magic eraser trick might work? If you're willing to try something.

I've been researching and read about the Magic eraser-- to test it in an inconspicuous area. I'm a bit timid to try it out given that this boy bag has a stiff/smooth feeling leather and am afraid to ruin the surface/texture. Thanks for the suggestion! I am desperate and am hoping there might be other options too! Thanks for the info

I'd suggest forgoing Magic eraser from the things I've read...it's really not worth destroying your purse...it'd probably be better to just take it to a specialist like you were originally considering. You could try dying it yourself, but again, unless you have experience with leather working it's probably better not to risk it.

Definitely not trying any home remedies on this bag. I've done some research and I'm going to reach out to leather surgeons to see if they can replenish or fix my color transfer! Will see what they quote me and how long it will take. I'm ready to fix it!

Were you able to find someone in SD? I am in the area too and found it hard to find anyone who could help me. I found one shop that quoted me $250 with no guarantees. I passed up the offer. I found another place that I paid $30 but they weren't able to get the stain out. However, it looks better than it did. That was on a canvas bag. They wouldn't even try color transfer on suede...

Unfortunately I haven't found one. I reached out to ones out of state and since mine is semi-patent, there's nothing they can do about it. It's such a bummer!!! There is a leather person Malibu (which still requires a drive) or you can try to contact Chanel (in which they told me they can't do anything for patent). Doesn't hurt to ask! Let me know if you try these avenues or end up finding someone else.

Leather Surgeons wasn't able to do anything? I would try a little Collonil GEL just on that spot to see if it helps. It's a beautiful bag, even with the color transfer. Keep using her in the meantime!

Magic eraser will destroy it. My wife had a a pink Chanel (different style, but same idea) nd it had blue dye from blue jeans which rubbed against hers.

I bought some good saddle soap (it is really great for all things leather, I would go with coach, allen edmonds, or Fiebing's on amazon) and went to town on it. I keep some soft toothbrushes around and scrubbed and scrubbed, reapplying soap every 3-5 minutes. After about 45 minutes, the bag was as good as new. Actually, it seems to pull off so much of the moisture that is naturally in leather, afterwards I had to get leather lotion (Coach or Allen Edmonds make great ones) and applied it about 4 times. That part took about 10 minutes. The bag looked better than new and felt as soft as belting butter.

Good luck

Was it a caviar or lambskin bag?
