Hello ladies,

I need your advice urgently (only have a 4 day window to make up my mind).

I currently own a 2 year old Airking, (SS Oyster bracelet, 31mm, fluted white gold bezel, white face with Roman Numerals with diamond markers) but have the opportunity to trade up to a Daytona, bi metal, Gold face, which is in excellent condition, no scratches, fully serviced etc., but it is from 1999 - my question is simple - do I do it?

Am I crazy to consider trading a 2 year old Rolex for a 13 year old Rolex? Plus paying 3.5k for the privelege. Or is the age not too important?

Does the Daytona simply ***** the Airking even if it is older?

Please, please help me decide as I am driving myself crazy!!

Thank you  :confused1: :confused1:

Are you sure you have an Air King? The AK is 34 mm, not 31mm, and almost never with Roman and diamond markers...

I assume you know that the seller is reputable and only sells authentic, right? Have you checked the math: what they will give you, and if the Daytona is correctly priced for that vintage? Normally, trading in is the fastest way to lose value compared to selling it on your own.

Has that Daytona been serviced recently, or do you need to figure that added cost (hundreds of dollars/pounds)?

Only with these specifics can you make a wise decision, but aside from that, what's your heart saying?

I would want to know what they are giving you for trade and what the price of the Daytona is. If based on those two factors it is a good value you're getting for the trade and on the new one then yes i would do it. The age would not concern me. These things run forever.

Sorry, my mistake (I was in such a hurry to ask for advice I've made a complete hash of the sizing). Yes, it is indeed 34mm and does come with roman and small diamond markers - I had no idea this combo was rare...I will upload a picture asap, hopefully this will help in decision making!

The jewellers is very reputable and has been serviced recently, however I am awaiting the managers phone call to talk prices and will add this info asap.

Thanks

Here are the pics of my current Airking, the other is the Daytona (this pic isn't the best, it is more golden and shiny in real life!)

Hope this helps

I prefer the airking--its very elegant and classic. great size too.

I love the air king and would keep it. But I'm curious to know the monetary value of each!

Thank you for your kind comments - it's always good to know what other people think, especially as I am not 100% sure that I am doing the right thing.

The manager has finally got back to me with his 'best' price and has repeatedly stated he is most eager to do the deal...and has 'kindly' offered to take my Airking in exchange for the 1999 Daytona and only wants £5,200 from me!!

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!!

He is currently selling the Daytona for £7,300 (baring in mind it is from 1999)
My Airking is currently £5,100 (mine is perfect and barely 2 years old)

I'm not so sure it is such a great deal after all!

What do you think?

I love everything about the air king pictured - size, color, roman numerals and diamonds!

Likewise. Unusual and sharp, esp. because of the fluted bezel, which is also less common on the AK.

Sounds like he wants to give you next to nothing for your AK. Figure he'd sell that Daytona outright for 7000 after negotiating, right? So, he's giving you maybe 1800 for your AK?

The math is quite clear on this deal. Sadly, it's not at all surprising.

I would definitely keep your Air King! It is Stunning! I would never part with it. Lol. And he is giving you a bad deal. He thinks he has something rare and you want it so he will give you nothing for your two year old Air King... And make probably even more profit on the deal than if you just bought the Daytona outright? I would tell him No and see what he says.
