Upgrade Rolex or buy VCA?

I currently have a RG/SS Datejust (photo attached) & have the opportunity to buy my HG watch - an all RG Datejust. To purchase the watch I would have to trade in my current watch & add £5k+ myself. Alternatively, I can keep my watch & purchase the VCA YG Vintage Alhambra guilloche pendant I have been lusting after for nearly half the price of my watch upgrade. Cost per wear is important to me & both would be worn most days. From the VCA world I already own & love my YG onyx sweet earrings.

I just went through this and can tell you my thought process. I have a Rolex watch that I've had for a long time. I absolutely love it but with the current trend of women wearing larger watches, I contemplated getting a larger watch at a later date. I was also saving money for a VCA (alahambra 5 motif bracelet) and figured I would buy the bracelet first since I already have a watch I wear every day. However, I found a Rolex in the exact combo I was looking for and ended up pulling the trigger. My reasoning is that the VCA bracelet is not hard to get- it's readily available at VCA and online (I live in NYC so there are a multiple VCA boutiques near me). However, the Rolex is harder to find in the combination I wanted. Therefore, I pulled the trigger on the watch and will get the VCA at a later date.

It's a personal decision but I wear my watch every single day so it's worth it to me. If cost per wear is important, I would buy the watch now and get your pendant at a later time but ultimately you can't go wrong with either choice.

Thanks for your thoughts! I feel kinda silly even having this dilemma but there you go. I’d reach for both items constantly. DH is 100% on board with the watch (it’s a daily item, my HG & retains its value pretty well if I ever needed to sell it). I don’t think he would be as supportive about the necklace. Silly but I do want him to be ok with such a big purchase. Reading this back I think I’m leaning towards the watch...

I think I’ll contact VCA & ask them if the necklace is part of their permanent collection (I think it is). If it is, then I’ll go for the watch

I would go with the necklace if it can be worn daily. Reasoning: you’ll want it regardless and I personally find an all gold watch difficult to wear daily. I have a gold daydate that I rarely wear since it just too much given how recognizable it is. If you are comfortable wearing the gold watch daily then I would go with it since it might be hard to find your HG.

I have a gold daydate that I rarely wear since it just too much given how recognizable it is. If you are comfortable wearing the gold watch daily then I would go with it since it might be hard to find your HG.

strangely I find my current watch quite flashy. Not sure if it’s the combination of the diamond markers, jubilee bracelet AND RG. The RG seems to stand out more against the SS. The watch I’d be buying would have an oyster bracelet, pink dial & Roman numerals. Both watches are 26mm (I have tiny wrists). It’s such a difficult decision. I’d have to put off buying the necklace for at least a year and then who knows if I’ll even get it after having to wait so long.

It’s a personal decision and you can’t go wrong either way but I would upgrade the watch. I think you would be getting a lot more for your money, even though it will be almost 2x as much as the necklace. Good luck with your decision!
