Help Ladies!!!

It's time for an upgrade. I currently have a 3.06 ct Asscher, in which I love the cut. My other favorite cut is the Radiant. It turns out my finger looks too fat, although its a size 5.5. It makes the diamond look smaller than it really is, when other gf's try on my ring it looks bigger on them.

I'm thinking of upgrading to a more "rectangular" shaped version of either Asscher (more shiny/flashy) or Radiant (sparkly). It'll elongate my finger and the diamond should look bigger. I'm torn and don't know which to go with as I love both cuts!

Let me know your thoughts and feel free to post pics. Anything is helpful & appreciated...

I would go with an emerald cut (also a step like an asscher) over a radiant. I am not a fan of radiants. Step cuts are far more elegant.

I love emeralds too!! But the most important is what sings to you and what looks best om your finger. Have you tried several cuts already at the jeweler?
Enjoy the search for your next diamond!! Are you looking for the same carat size? Could you post a pic of your current ring?:smile1:

Thank you all ladies for your comments. I love love love the facets of an asscher and thus an emerald as well. They actually do have rectangular asscher (the LxW ratio not equal). However, I feel that an asscher's facets is just stunning, I've always been in love how it draws your eyes to the center. The facets and how it draws to the center isn't exactly the same as an emerald. I feel that anything rectangular won't make the diamond look so small and my finger so big. I don't know how to take a clear pic on my cell phone... but this is the best I could do. Pics really don't do it any justice, it's stunning in person - just looks small on my finger. The total carats currently is 5.7 and my ring size is 5.5. Let me know your thoughts ladies. Thanks again!

I don't think that looks small on you at all. But I think you're suffering from DSS: Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome. And seeing it on someone else's hand is making you think it looks smaller on your hand. So an upgrade or not wearing it for a while usually helps that. It's obviously cheaper to put it away for a little while or take breaks from it so you can see it looking big on your hand again.

A square step cut is going to face up small for it's carat weight anyway, its a taller stone, where most of the carat weight is lost in the height, "in the steps".

I am very well aware that there are rectangular asschers, but again, they're not going to face up as large as something like an emerald cut would for it's carat weight which is why I am recommending the emerald cut for you in this case. It will provide more finger coverage than even a rectangular asscher can, without you going for a 10-15 ct asscher or something. Maybe something like a Crisscut branded emerald cut could give you the step look you long for but the elongation you also want, to fill out the finger coverage?

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your help. Do you find the shine just as shiny as the asscher/emerald on the criss cut version in person? I love the way asscher and emerald shines (rather than sparkle). Also, how you can see it drawn to the center clearly.

I think the emerald is too rectangular, thus asking about the asscher's ratio to be a little uneven so that it's a little longer but not by too much.

Thanks so much for your input! I'm planning on going up a carat size at most.

Actually, I think a Crisscut is much flashier but they're smaller flashers and the patterning I think draws you in more. It's cut that way on purpose. You'd need to see it in person though to see what you thought of it. Crisscuts come in asscher as well, btw, just in case you like the pattern.

If you can FIND an asscher that is that much more rectangular (I mean, they're SUPPOSED to be square), excellent, though I think going up in carat weight will hopefully give you a little more spread anyway.

Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
