Hi All

I just moved to London from Melbourne. In Melbourne I bought few pairs of shoes over last years because they were comfy and very reasonably priced.

In London the Prices seem extremely high! The flats I bought for 99AUD are £110 (equivalent of 237AUD) in London. The Mid Heel pumps are 149AUD in Melbourne and £110 (equivalent of 237AUD) in London!

Has it always been like this, a big discrepancy with Europe being more expensive?

Yep and it sucks! It's all the duty and taxes the government slaps on! I have found just recently that Macy's is good, they ship to the UK and you can pay your duty and taxes when you check out. Good to buy things while they are on sale as it works out a better deal. If you choose not to pay the taxes and you get stung by Royal Mail they charge you £10ish to send you a letter saying there's an item waiting for collection with customs charges.

Happy shopping

I'm not sure about the shoes but the bags have always been very expensive in the UK! That's why I've brought most of mine abroad.

Of and when I get chance to go to the U.S. Some serious damage would be done in Macy's lol x

Yes and this is why diamondsforever, suz82 and I would probably like to hide in your suitcase when you go to Miami. We will provide our own human size suitcases obviously with enough room for us and everything we snap up stateside. You won't even notice we are there but actually the hotel room may be a bit cramped lol.

Things are often so much more expensive here and we pay a premium which is unfair and we also don't get the sales that the ladies over the pond get on their bags.

I second what suz82 has said in the UK we have always had to pay a premium on goods and as she says it sometimes works out cheaper to buy from Macy's because even with import charges you get a better deal. I think we are probably one of the most expensive european countries for designer goods. It is very frustrating and why we get really excited if we manage to snap up a bargain.

Greedy government hey, we earn it, they take it and then make us pay more tax on what we buy.
