On 11/11/18, around 10pm, I took an Uber ride back to my apartment in NYC. When I got off the car, I noticed that I left my Chanel bag in the car. We chased the vehicle but the driver drove away saying he didn't see us in the rear even tho we chased him until we were only 10 feet away from the car. The driver refused to pick up his phone when I contacted him via the Uber app immediately after and even hung up on me multiple times. After 40 min of calling him, he finally responded, he came back to the apartment but there is no bag in the car. I'm so devastated. My Chanel bag, Chanel cardholder with all my cards and id, and everything inside is now gone. This bag was my dream bag.
(The driver is definitely shady and Uber is not doing anything to investigate on the situation. Please just be careful of your belongings if you use Uber especially in NYC. Also, apparently no way to contact the driver directly if your driver ends your trip.)

I'm truly truly devastated and lost all my hope and trust in humanity and Uber.

Thankfully, I have the authenticity cards for the bag and my cardholder, so if any of the members see this cardholder or the bag being sold in NYC, NY, and NJ area, please let me know!!!!

Items:

How devastating! :( I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I had a similar experience, although my loss was nothing compared to yours. I left a pair of my favorite leather gloves in the Uber. I tried many times to reach the driver but he was unreachable and his inbox was permanently full. Uber wouldn't help me either.

I hope you are able to get it back.

This exact situation happened to me with an NYC yellow cab. I called the company, filed a report, and nothing more came from it. The driver left with my Speedy, WOC with cash and cards, and sunglasses. If you haven't already, freeze all your cards and request new ones. If your license with address and car keys were there, reprogram the car and get a new set. Lastly, write a review on the driver!!! Drivers with low ratings have the potential to lose their app!

I once rode with an Uber driver who told me a story of a person leaving their personal item in his car. He told me that it was up to the driver to resolve the issue personally, Uber only opens a ticket--this driver kept trying to call the owner for days and after day 8, he was finally able to meet the person to give them their item back. I wish you were only so lucky to find someone that honest.

Definitely give them a poor rating that will trigger an inquiry. I know on Lyft if you give a 1 star, it will give you the option to call an operator who can lend some assistance.

I would also do what others suggested and file a police report. At this point, it's likely grand theft and you should have their name, license plate and picture from the Uber app.

Good luck my dear, I hope you recover what was stolen.

I'm sorry that happened to you too! Uber has the worst customer service. I never knew until I needed it. :( They said they contacted the driver and he said there was nothing in the car. Obviously, if he took it, he's not going to admit it. The least they can do is to ask the other passenger to see if they saw the bag in the car or anyone had it.

I'm sorry that happened to you too! I froze all my cards other than 1 in case if they try to use it, we can get some evidence out of it. :( Definitely will give the driver a a low rating.

Thank you! I have been on the passenger side of things multiple times where my driver gets call from previous passenger about their personal item and they schedule a way to meet right after. My friends have also been able to get in contact with their uber drivers immediately when they have left something. All the stories I heard where the driver didn't pickup the phone immediately, their items have all been stolen. The drivers can be so dishonest and Uber isn't going to do anything about it.

My diver was like "I don't look back at my passengers and I don't look at them when they get off." He's very shady. When we filed the report and the police tried to call him, he said he's busy and hung up on the police.

Wow! So sorry about what happened. Can’t believe how shady some ppl are. I hope you can recoup some loss through your credit card company if you bought your items with a credit card that has loss coverage? Definitely check your credit card insurance agreement.
Hope the driver can’t sleep at night and rethinks his actions and returns the bag to you. Those things did happen in the past... so sad though... :(

Thank you. I did file a police report, have to wait to get a copy of it. I don't think the police will really do anything until I can locate my items.
To be honest, the police won’t do anything. They just keep your report on file and that’s it. They will tell you to contact your insurance company and that’s it...

I'm so sorry to hear that such an awful thing happened to you! With Uber's customer service the only way it seems to retaliate against the driver is by giving him an awful review and a bad rating. With the value of your bag and wallet + whatever money in your wallet, it is definitely a felony and hopefully if your driver gets caught, they will be punished with far more than simple theft.

Fingers crossed everything works out for you!
