I recently came across some brand new jeans (long story, details not important). Two pair are black, new, still have all the tags, never worn. One is Levis 512, size 14. The other is 'Faded Glory' (whatever those are), size 8. The 8s fit, the 14s are too small. How does that work? No, it isn't a matter of adult or junior type sizes either.

Why can't I find basic black stockings? Not pantyhose, thigh highs, stay-ups or any of the other variations. Regular simple stockings that need garters. None of the general stores or marketplace sites I've tried in the last two days offer them at all. At least not in domestic brands. I did find some Asian sellers offering them, but I've not had good luck with quality in the past, or with one European brand I can find. I haven't even been able to find them from Wolford or any other premium brands. I know they're not exactly in general style these days, but come on, nobody carries them? I have to go dig up specialty sites and create a new account to buy with? I used to be able to find them almost everywhere.

thats strange with the jeans....I can't imagine someone who fits in an 8 being able to wear a 14. re the stockings - not to insult you but I think except for a novelty (sexy garterbelt or something) those pretty much went out when pantyhose became popular. I wonder if there is some store that sells sexy lingerie that would carry them (or website)
love your avatar :)

Back in the 80's and early 90's Silkshosiery sold lace top stockings, and then replaced them with stay ups. I once made the error of buying the stay ups as the packaging looked the same. I figured something was up as the regular lace top "stockings" got hard to find so I bought as much stock as I could find. I still to this day have unopened packages. I did a quick search and found a seller of lace tops that require a garter belt. Check out the "bay" seller 4stevestuff Coquette Thigh High Sheer Lace Top Stockings - Reg and Plus Sizes White or Black
I can't vouch for the quality, but it's worth a shot.

I actually understand your sizing issue. I wear a medium in some clothes and a large or even an x-large in other brands. I order most of my clothing online and I find inconsistent sizing very frustrating. That's why I order from Nordstrom if I want to try a brand whose sizing is unfamiliar to me - they have a customer-friendly return policy.

As for the stockings, I would have recommended Wolford but that's obviously the wrong answer.

Can't help you on the jeans issue, but denims have always been notorious.

For stockings, don't know US brands but you could try black Ambers or Opale by Agent Provocateur if there are any stockists in the US https://www.agentprovocateur.com/stockings-hold-ups

I always find clothing sizing tricky, so I don't buy very often online. Jeans especially are a tough fit. I think Levi's 512 are a slim fit, if they don't stretch I could see needing to size up. Faded Glory is a Walmart brand, if they are more like a boyfriend fit or have a lot of stretch you can probably size down, they may also just run large (vanity sizing).

Stockings I haven't worn in ages, I found pantyhose itchy when I wore them as a child. I do have some thigh highs that didn't bother me as much, they have the elastic tops and were bought at a drugstore. I would guess a specialty lingerie store if you don't want elastic tops, you could still wear the garter belt even if the stockings have elastic if it's just for the look of it.

By any chance, are the Levi's vintage (made in USA?). That could explain the sizing difference! Vintage Levi's run small so you have to go up 2 sizes to fit your normal size. I'm usually an 11 or 13 in vintage jrs. sizing USA made Levi's...or a 10 in misses but a size 6 in regular modern sizing, or a 28/29. Jeans are a pain to shop for!!

Jeans are all over the place... I find the waist sizing more consistent. I’m always 26/27... but numeric sizing I’ve got size 0 through 8 depending on the brand. All over the place!

I don't know how old they are, several years at least. I can understand a size or two difference between brands, but 6 sizes?

I've come up with a few sources for the other, but no where near what used to be out there.
