Tungsten vs. titanium for fiance's wedding band?

Titanium will tend to scratch more easily than tungsten. Tungsten is a very hard metal so it will retain its finish and shine for quite some time. One thing to consider with tungsten is that it often contains cobalt which some people are allergic to.

You might also want to suggest platinum to him, its surface will scratch in the same way as titanium but it can be polished back to a mirror finish. Also, its hypoallergenic so you wont have any problems with metal allergies.

Niether tungsten nor titanium can be worked on or sized. Something to consider.

Perosonally, I much prefer white gold or platinum over 'fancy' metals. In the long run, they prove to be much easier to care for. Sure, a titanium ring won't break but it alss won't polish or be resized, etc, etc.

My dh has a tungsten band. He does not wear any jewelry besides a watch and did not want anything shiny or flashy. I was hesitant at first but I really love the way it looks on him. It suits him perfectly and still looks as nice as the day he put it on. He has worked on his car, painted, and done other odd jobs without ever having fear of scratching his ring!

I prefer platinum as well, and he had my ring custom made in platinum, but he's not interested in platinum for himself. He's a very outdoorsy guy and I get the sense that he wants something different than the polished, comfort-fit platinum band that his dad has. His friend has a tungsten ring, so that's how he got the idea.

Thanks for the info, ladies! Now I have to find a jeweler that sells tungsten!

My fiance went with tungsten and we got it at http://www.titanium-jewelry.com - they sell a lot of really awesome men's wedding bands (and they were cheaper than any jewelry store we went to). He hasn't worn it except to try it on yet ('cause we won't be married for another week and a half) but he seems pretty psyched about it.

I just wanted to mention something that I learned from my jeweler friend.
If your fiance works with his hands or heavy machinery, titanium may not be a good choice. If something (heaven forbid) happens and the ring needs to be removed from his finger, it is nearly impossible to remove the titanium ring from the finger without damaging the finger. Jewelers have a tiny "jaws of life" for such cases and the titanium is still nearly impossible to remove.

My DH did not want a precious metal wedding band as he said he'd be too rough on it. I wanted to get him a platinum band, but he didn't want me to spend that much on it. (He bought e-ring, so I insisted on buying the wedding bands.) We decided on titanium because it was lighter weight than sterling or tungsten, but still strong.

I wound up going with a seller on e*bay who custom made matching titanium bands for me. I looove mine. Here's my thead: http://forum.purseblog.com/the-jewelry-box/just-wanted-show-off-matching-titanium-weddng-bands-326008.html

It's now 6 months later & my band looks as immaculate as it was on our wedding day. DH's is a little scratched up, but you can't see that from across the room. He likes his a lot.

Oh yeah, tungsten is pretty heavy - my fiance is a big buy so he went with a pretty wide band and it's definitely a you-have-to-get-used-to-it thing whereas titanium is practically weightless.
