I always struggle with this and wonder what others do. I have a lot of jewelry, I assume most of us do since we're on this forum, but what do I take when I vacation? Do I just take the pieces that I happen to be wearing day to day at the particular time of travel? I sometimes will have a wg look layered necklaces and bracelets, earrings, watch, etc, sometimes yg or sometimes a statement necklace and little earrings. So do I just take what I know that I'll wear daily or do I pack a "wardrobe" of looks that I think I might want to wear? I have been accused of over packing, but don't we all? So what do you travel with?

I'm OCD about this when I travel LOL So I make sure not to overpack, or try to limit it as much as possible, I will lay out my clothes for each day that I will be gone to decide what I will wear during day and evening and then pick out what jewelry I want to wear with each outfit. I think just pack that.

It depends on how long the trip is and where i am going. Usually i just bring what i can leave on 24/7 for fine jewellery, like wedding band, simple necklace n stud earrings. I may throw in some obviously costume jewellery like beaded necklaces/earrings that can work for evenings but which wont devastate me if i lose them.

I try not to overpack because I always end up buying stuff and need room to bring it home.
I try to bring a few pieces and plan my wardrobe around them. I just worry about bringing too much and it getting stolen or lost. If I bring costume jewelry I don't care as much, but the expensive stuff I try to leave in the safe deposit box.

See I'm the opposite, I'm worried if I leave it home we'll be robbed. I like it where I can see it even things I don't wear often like my grandmother's pearls. BTW I was told if you do leave things home to hide them in low weird places cuz most burglars are in too much of a rush to get down low and hunt for things. Don't know if this is true or not but I do it anyway.

How about leaving your valuables in a bank safe? Are u able to do that? Yes, i can understand your concern about having your house being broken into if u are away, esp if it is a long holiday.

I leave my home for a month every summer to go on vacation. I put all my jewelry into a bank safety deposit box.
On this last trip, I only wore my wedding band, diamond stud earrings, watch, my St Christopher gold medallion/ necklace. I even put my ering in the safe.. This was a first for me!
I wouldn't bring too much, things can easily get misplaced or stolen from hotel rooms. I think costume jewelry that goes w several outfits is a good idea!

I just came back from Europe and all I brought with me was my wedding band and my 1ctw stud earrings. It would be devastating to loose jewelry on a vacation, even if it's insured!

If I were you I'd bring the bare mimimum and if you want, perhaps one statement piece for fancy dinners and such. Like the PPs, I also recommend a safety deposit box! Even if it's temporary. :) Good luck!

If its somewhere cold, usually a nice pair of earrings since they are the most visible thru the coats, scarves and all. I like earrings as I'm able to keep these on and am least likely to lose them.

I take very little when I travel, since I have a habit of misplacing/losing things while on holiday. I commonly wear things that I don't have to take off for much, like diamond stud earrings, a gold bracelet, my wedding set, a plain gold RHR. For jewelry to go with a certain outfit or for one night, I will carry paste.

As for hiding things, I am much more comfortable putting things in the safe deposit box at the bank while we are away. I think it is important to have a box at the bank for documents anyway, and it is handy to use it for safe-keeping of jewelry while we travel.

As I travel a lot on business, I had DH get me a Cannon Safe that's the size of a subzero. Not only is it not going to be broken into, but it can't be moved it a standard dolly (it weighs so much it will snap it in half). So I travel knowing it will take the group from the Italian job to get my jewels...

In the flip side, my grandmother, who is a jeweler, believes all jewelry should be worn and and just insure everything...

I also believe in leaving jewelry at home. We have a wall safe & I am comfortable leaving things there. It's not worth bringing valuables on vacation. I've heard so many stories, my SIL lost her emerald ring one trip and her engagement ring on another! It's just not worth it!
I'm going to Paris & Rome in October and I'm only taking my wedding band, inexpensive earrings, bracelet & watch. I really want to enjoy this trip and not worry about my jewelry :-)
