I love both my infinitely practical, elegant mini Borough, and my HG Madison gathered leather small bag (I can only carry mini/ small bags due to previous life adventures). I love them both so much, and they serve such different purposes, that I want to bring them both half way across the country to the in-laws for Christmas/ New Years holidays. Obviously, the mini Borough is more suited to carrying through airports, but I have no idea how to pack my beloved gathered small bag in my luggage. Have you packed a gathered bag in your luggage? What did you do, and how well did it work?

I have wanted very much to take my gathered bags traveling but am afraid to. They gathers, IMO, can lose shape very easily if not properly stored. If there is any other bag you want to take in place of it, I would probably do so and not take the change

That's exactly my concern! Last time I visited the in-laws, my sil had such a gorgeous tuberose Sophia that a gathered bag became my HG bag (I've had Chanel, Versace, Prada, etc; I'm at the point I like what I like, and if it's Coach, so be it). I'm kinda leaning towards just the mini Borough and a studded Legacy universal wristlet as a secondary if no one has a good idea of how to pack a gathered bag in luggage. The studded Legacy universal wristlet is not even close to a gathered bag, but at least it's diametrically opposed the other way.

Eta: The gathered leather bags seriously made me reconsider Coach. They were my Damascus moment.

The last time I traveled, I brought my nylon chevron Sophia in my suitcase. It looks almost as elegant as the gathered leather but is so easy to care for. I didn't chance bringing a leather bag on my trip at all. My other bag was saffiano. I don't think I would pack a gathered Sophia but the smaller bag might travel okay. I would worry about extremes in temperatures loosening the gathers though.

I travelled with my 2nd generation black gathered leather Sophia to London and Paris 2 years ago. All that rain in London loosened up some of the folds in the bag =(

I wouldn't do it again. I'd definitely bring a sturdier leather bag next time.

Thanks, ladies! I forgot to mention that my gathered bag is also metallic, so I guess that's 2 strikes against it for traveling. The mini Borough is pebbled, and I never put bags on the floor without a dustbag, so I think she'll do just fine alone. Thanks again! :smile1:

My hubby says half of my Coach bags look like they came from Walmart. I try not to let it bother me. What does he know?

Not a whole lot. He hated the dark plume siggy bag I carried there this summer (he hates siggy bags, and I'm not normally a fan of them myself), but I loved the color and I knew I wouldn't care if anything happened to it. I got tons of compliments on the color, and he eventually warmed up to it.
But his father was terminally ill (we got word he passed away this morning) so I'm trying to humor him. :shucks:

Thanks for your advice, ladies!

I am extremely sorry for your loss. :( Your family is my thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry for your husband's loss. Even when you are prepared for it, it is still hard to deal with.
