I have not traveled to Cancun in 20 years (well before I had jewelry to worry about) and have recently booked a trip to a resort there. Is it safe to wear my Cartier bracelets and ring there? I was planning on my smaller travel diamond wedding set but hate to take my 24/7 stack off but obviously safety first. Thoughts?

I’d leave my jewelry at home. Recently traveled to the Caribbean and only wore my wedding band. In the past I wouldn’t have thought twice about wearing my e-ring. But, I left it all at home. And I realized it was nice not to be wearing expensive things when talking to the locals (even if they were resort staff). Most others at the resort didn’t wear their jewelry either. And the ones that did certainly stood out. If you are traveling somewhere where residents are struggling to make ends meet, I feel like it is just being mindful. Others may disagree of course.

I have not been to Mexico, but I have been to Amanyara in T&C and, Post Covid, in Canuan in the British grenadines (Mandarin Oriental resort) . No one really dressed up in terms of bags or jewelry. The women wore dresses that were also pool wraps. The men looked like day laborers down on their luck. Very relaxed atmosphere. if I was at all worried about it, I would leave stuff like that at home. But, I agree that if you are simply staying at the resort (as we did), no need to take off your stack. I wore my VCA six motif gmop necklace bc it’s not blingy (no hardware or sparkly stones) and light. Btw, I never use a designer beach tote bc I’m clumsy with sunscreen, water, etc. i use a complimentary raffia tote usually found in the rooms which probably costs 5USD.

I travel to Cancun pretty often. I always stay in a high end resort in the hotel zone. I never take my stack off. What I would suggest is wearing long sleeves when you travel (I wear a lightweight jacket for the plane), and I also have sweat bands for beach walks. It's crazy. I think what you end up wearing really depends on where you go there.

If you aren't leaving the resort, keep a modest stack.

If you are leaving the resort for excursions or going into town, don't wear high-end jewelry. You'd stick out more and people will notice.

I've been to Cozumel, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta and left my vintage diamond wedding band set at home in favor of a minimalist two-ring stack of a tiny diamond and small pearl.

Locals don't walk around markets or tuck into street birria or mariscos wearing fine jewelry.

Enjoy your trip and all the incredible food!

Hello. I'm from Mexico and it's sad to say but in terms of insecurity and many other things, we are living in a nightmare.
However, I returned from Cancun a few days ago, I was in an all-inclusive resort and I don't usually go out and there was no problem I could count on my stay. If your plan as I read in the previous answers is only to go out for a day or two, I don't see any problem to wear your jewelry, the hotels and in general the hotel zone and tourist areas are still, within what we can say, quite safe.

I have been to Mexico many times and have experienced the large cities, small towns and high end resorts. In Cancun we stayed in Mayakoba and if you remain in the resorts it's quite safe. However I also agree that it's probably much more considerate to the staff to dress a little more subtly, considering the current climate. In this case you will also have peace of mind even when you travel outside the resort. I totally get you, at home I always wear my E ring set and love rotating my jewellery collection, but sometimes it easier to really relax and enjoy one's vacation with one less thing to worry about. Have a safe trip!
