I have some lovely pieces of jewelry that I really can't wear for personal reasons, but I doubt I'd be able to figure out how to sell them for a reasonable price (and honestly I'd just use the money to buy more jewelry anyway) So this may be a weird question, but is there any reputable way/place to trade (rather than sell) reasonably high end jewelry?

this may be a tough one since jewelry is a lot more expensive than makeup. and since each piece is uniquely priced as far as its worth goes, i wonder if there is such a site.

i know i'd be very apprehensive to trade jewelry with someone unless there were proper appraisals in place—which still can be faked with the powers of Photoshop.

I agree. There is no way I would trade jewelry with anyone unless I knew them and could take the piece for a reputable appraisal and know I could return it if there were issues with it.

I'm leery about even selling fine jewelry on Ebay.

The ideas are good...I personally too would not be comfortable trading/swappin FINE JEWELRY...but I would love to have a site where we can trade designer pieces, unique FASHION jewelry and May be PANDORA Beads
I have some pieces that I loved 3 yrs back, but now I think I have matured in my taste for jewelry pieces...just need to trade those kinds....

I see what you all mean. It would really only work for pieces that are a recognizable brand and even then you'd need to know that the person was trustworthy...
