Janss, I am so sorry. Our daughter has a horse and he's been her companion for 4 years....they've grown together and you love them so much.

You have my complete sympathy. We had to put two cats to sleep withing a month of each other recently. It was really depressing. Sometimes though there is nothing you can do and doing drastic measures only makes the animal suffer more.
