Tim Burton confirms a Beetlejuice sequel IS happening with Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton set to reprise their roles

It's a gothic comedy which has earned cult classic status.
And 1988 box office hit Beetlejuice is finally set for a sequel, Tim Burton, the film's director, has confirmed.
The eccentric filmmaker, 57, told Showbiz Spy: 'The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! The 1988 cult classic is finally set for a sequel, Tim Burton, the film's director, has confirmed

'We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.'
There's no indication yet as to when filming will begin, but the mere confirmation of the project and the involvement of the original cast will no doubt be enough to appease fans for now.

News of the return of the obnoxious ghost, played by Keaton, 64, has been circulating for some time, with actress Winona Ryder, 44, appearing to confirm it during an interview with Seth Meyers last August.

She said: 'I think I can confirm it. It was very hush-hush top secret … but then (Tim Burton) was doing some press for ‘Big Eyes’ and and he did an on-camera interview and he said, "Oh yeah, we’re doing it, and Winona’s going to be in it" … If he said it, I can say it.'
Before she added: 'I really don’t know much more than anybody.'
And Burton admitted the chances of a follow up were good in an interview with IGN the previous year.

Burton previously said there was only one Beetlejuice and that was Michael Keaton, 64

'There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael,' said Burton. 'There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.'
The iconic film revolves around deceased couple Barbara and Adam Maitland and their efforts to scare away the new family who move into their country home.
When their attempts prove unsuccessful, the couple summon the crude ghost Betelgeuse (Keaton) to help, but it soon becomes apparent that they've let themselves in for more than they bargained for.

Keaton only appeared on screen for 17 minutes in the original but every single one was memorable
