I bought a used 18k open heart pendant. And my friend has the same sized pendant in silver. They are the same size (medium A). I compared the two and they look the same from the front however the gold one is thinner than the silver when looked from the side. I don't know if tiffany does it to save on cost? or could mine be a fake. (I got mine cleaned at T and the lady said mine looked legit.)

One may be an older version.....sometimes Tiffany's slightly revamps a design.
Tiffany's is not really noted for doing something to "save" money.
I have several Tiffany pendants in gold and they are quite substantial in feel and I have always felt that I got my money's worth for the gold. :)

sometimes silver designs are just thicker, a perfect example is the dbty silver versus platinum and gold. the plat and gold are way thinner, but the silver dbty tends to look chunkier around the diamond.

Older ones are also thinner than the newer, and shape will vary from metal, year, etc.. If you want to post pics on the "authenticate this jewelry or seller", I could tell you for sure. Chance are it's legit, there's not a lot of fake 18k Tiffany floating around (other brands, yes, but not so much Tiffany).

Just a guess here, but maybe they go by weight? Do they weigh the same? Since silver weighs less than gold, maybe they made the silver one thicker? Again, it is just a wild guess, but I am curious if there is a weight difference.

jpg0150 - Just curious, why do you think there is not much fake gold Tiffany? No high demand (as opposed to the silver)?

I have noticed that too with many gold pieces vs. silver pieces. Gold costs a lot more than silver (isn't up to $1150 an ounce), and I thought they did this to make the pieces more affordable.
