Hello,

This is my first post to tPF but I tend to find other shop-aholics and tiffany-aholics like myself. Now just like every girl I've always dreamed of a Tiffany Solitaire since before I can remember. My bf is very well aware of this and isn't getting anything less (:yahoo:) but he is quite strict on size and budget. I want at least .7-1 carat but he wont go anything more than .5. Is the size difference that large between 1/2 and 1? I know all the tricks to bring price down such as going for low in letters and in numbers. Since its from Tiffany's I know the ring is going to be amazing and i'm too hung up on details except for size. How do I win this fight??

P.S. I think the time is soon so I'm in need of a rush to help change his mind before he buys me the smaller one :p

Also can anyone with the Tiffany setting post photos so I can get a glimpse as to the different sizes, specs, and prices? Thanks!

I don't have a tiffany engagement ring, but I have a similar six prongs solitaire, and I love it.I think similar settings can be a good idea.
I can understand that if you have always dream about a tiffany solitaire, the idea to get something else can look sad,but I thnk that with the same budget you can pic out something so similar (like a tiffany style six prongs or a lucida style) but a bit bigger.
I think it depend on you.If you are more into big stone,so go for the similar setting;if you love the brand and the quality of tiffany, let him pic out the smaller. You can always upgrade in some years!
By the way welcome and congrats on your soon engagement!

Congratulations on your engagement!

I was browsing Tiffany engagement rings just a month ago and the size range I was looking at was similiar to yours. I was choosing between two rings at the end, and the price difference between a 0.86 ct G/VVS1 and 1ct F/VS2 was about +40%. And to be honest, they didn't look that much different in size unless you put them side by side. (but I ended up going for the bigger one:smile1:). I have posted pics in the engagement ring thread, it's in the last few pages. HTH.

Cakelover, I love it!!!! Do you know roughly how much you paid (if he wont tell you then maybe a ballpark figure)? Its funny because as I was browsing I saw it and just stared without even realizing it was you! Beautiful ring

The Tiffany RB solitaire is set quite low, making the stone appear smaller. There is a noticeable size difference between a .5 and a l carat ring. However, anything above a .8 would appear similar to a 1 carat. The price is significantly lower when you buy under 1 carat as well (eg: .8 to .99 pts). Try looking at the preowned ones on www.signedpieces.com if you don't mind buying second hand. You can save a bundle and get a bigger diamond. Good luck on your search!
