Tiffany legacy 3.2mm

Hi ladies, it's my 10year anniversary in two weeks and DH wants to get me an eternity ring. We went to Tiffany and tried a few but then they showed us a pic of the legacy in 3.2mm. I love it! It's totally my style. I'd be wearing it in my right ring finger on its own. Because of this I want it to be big enough to look amazing, catch the light and really be a stunning ring! I'm worried this won't be big enough mainly because I haven't seen it in person.

A few questions:
- Do you have this ring? If so can you post a pic so I can see how big it looks on?
- Have you had any issues with stones falling out?
- Is it worth it to get Tiffany for a simple band like this or am I better off going to somewhere cheaper and getting bigger stones? I feel like it is totally worth it for an e-ring but is it worth it for a band?
- any other rings I should consider?
- anything else you can tell me about this ring that you love or hate?

I do love the legacy but want to be sure and don't want to regret my decision!

Thanks so much!

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming anniversary. I do own a few Tiffany celebration rings and I think they are worth it. I do not own the Legacy so I suggest that you try that on and see how you like it. At that price point, I would like to suggest that you try on the Lucida solitaire for your right hand, you can get a stone a bit more than 1/2 carat. That ring is so pretty and the cut is exclusive to Tiffany.

Yeah that's the trouble they don't have it in stock and I have to have it shipped from USA to Australia and have to pay for it or deposit before they'll bring in. I'll check that other ring out tho! Thanks!

So attached are two other rings I'm looking at. Both from premium relatively high end stores.

The first two pics are option 1 - about 1.8 tdw, platinum with engraving on sides, I think brilliant cut stones. I'm waiting on a quote but this will be about $8-9k Aud

The next ones are option 2 - tdw just over 1.8 carats. Princess cut set in platinum. $9680 Aud. No engraving but stunning!

And then of course there's the legacy which is smaller at 1.3carats total diamond weight (for my size) and $10k Aud

So I really have no idea. I love the idea of having bigger stones as it will be worn on its own but a Tiffany ring would be something I'd be proud to hand down to my kids/grandkids.

What would you choose? Help!! Show me pics of your 3.2 legacy on so I can figure if it will work!

This is so funny, that you bring up the question now, because I found myself circling around the exact same ring recently. Must have been some subliminal ads on purseforum.

Thank you for taking & posting the photos, so helpful!
I should start taking photos, too. I am too shy.

I like the first one more than the princess cut style. It seems more robust and perfect for an everyday ring. I know this style with the engravings from my mum's ring. So I am biased.

The ring is approx 8.000€, that's not far from the price at the high end store you've visited.

You write "So I really have no idea. I love the idea of having bigger stones as it will be worn on its own but a Tiffany ring would be something I'd be proud to hand down to my kids/grandkids."
My mother has a no-brand legacy ring and it is perfect. I guess a child/grandchild would love such a ring, regardless of the brand.
At least I would. But since my mum still loves to wear her ring, I have to get ony by myself.

I want to get it for myself, no anniversery around here.
It is beautiful. I want it. That will suffice.

The only thing that concerns me from purchasing from Hardy Brothers is their supporting diamonds or diamonds in close contact with each other are often SI2. I have purchased a few items from Hardy brothers before and I do like their designs. However after noticing on their website, unless the piece is a very high end piece with a centre diamond of over a few carats the supporting diamonds are not eye clean clarity wise. I noticed this especially when there were some earrings I wanted and the clarity was not as good as I would expect from a jeweller who designs pieces for Her Majesty, The Queen of England.

I think it is lovely but I would ask what the minimum clarity is of the diamonds from HB before purchasing. I don't mean to offend in anyway, just providing my observations.

Good luck with your decision and I am sure you will choose a lovely ring :)

xx

If they aren't eye clean, they are probably I and not SI2.

Any diamond with an eye visible inclusion should be classified as an I1.
Note: Any diamond from the SI2 clarity grade and up is considered eye clean, meaning that you should not be able to see any inclusions without magnification. If you can see an inclusion without magnification, it is not in the above grade
http://www.diamonddoctor.com/shopcontent.asp?type=Diamond Clarity

SI2 diamonds usually have inclusions that cannot be seen with the naked eye when looking at the stone from above (some inclusions may be visible without magnification if you look really hard for them).
However, if you look at an SI2 diamond from the side, you may be able to see some inclusions.

Since we are talking about a band ring, the inclusions can't be seen from the side, no?

Yes! I agree - I actually asked them to supply me that info on Sunday and they were supposed to call Monday morning. I still hadn't heard from them today (tues) so tried to call them but all I found was their email address for the store. Emailed them but no reply. Ughhhh. I didn't know much about HB - but have seen their jewellery and thought it looked good, so thanks for the heads up - glad I had the sense to check! Let's hope they get back to me soon!

I also spoke to Tiffany on Sunday and they are sending a ring to the Gold Coast store. Not my size but at least I can see it in the flesh and not be wondering what it is like after I've forked out $10k!! They said they would call back to confirm details on Sunday, but again I've heard nothing! When on the phone with them, they told me that the diamonds could be anywhere from a D to J!! If individual stones are under 0.18 carat (I think it was), then I won't get to find out what the specifics are for the ring. The tdw is 1.31 carats - The legacy will fall into this category, so unless I take it to a jeweller, I'm unlikely to find out. I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed. Yes, I'm not spending $30k or more which is probably entry level e-ring for Tiffany, but I just thought they'd give you than anyway - how naive am I?!? Haha! DH wasn't surprised and said no one will give a certificate for it. So knowing my luck, I'll be the girl who ends up with a ring with $10k worth of J diamonds lol.

The other place with the ring with engraving said they will call by tomorrow so let's see if they do. Not doing so well with the other guys this far!

Tbh, unless the diamonds are noticeably smaller or really crap, I am about 70% certain I'm going with Tiffany. This is a milestone for us. It's something I want a memory for. I picture giving it to my son one day and it would be nice saying "for our 10yr anniversary, dad gave me this beautiful ring from Tiffany, and I want to you have it and pass it on..." But I can't picture myself doing that with either of the other places. I probably won't even recall their names, but I'll never forget Tiffany.

I'll update when I have more info, but thanks for the feedback so far! Keep it coming if you have advice I'd still love to hear it!

Thank you for answering a question I have not asked yet.
We are very much a like!

What I like about diamonds: you can see a lot with your eyes: if it looks clear and BRIGHT in my eyes, it is the diamond I like.
I once looked at a VS2 and it was not bright. The cut. The cut. The cut! ... which leads us to Tiffany, no?

I def. will take pictures when I a at the store, hopefully soon.

Im glad you asked the question, then you can make an informed decision. I don't think $10k is a cheap ring and all, in fact I think that is a good budget to get a lovely ring.

Usually I have seen for wedding band type rings, on the insurance valuation some jewellers will have "Colour: D-F" and "Clarity: VS-SI" or something similar. As not all the diamonds are the same, but they have to be similar so they match. Ask them if they can provide a valuation and it might have the minimum/maximum grades of the diamonds on it. I don't have a wedding band style ring from Tiffanys (yet lol) so I can't help you there. Maybe look on eBay and see the second hand wedding bands and their pictures of the accompanying valuation - might give you a guide what they look like and say for these style rings. Especially if you are still waiting for them to get back to you.

Or you could always go for a right hand solitaire ring? Then I know Tiffany will definitely give you a diamond report! I have bought solitaire rings from Tiffany for less than your budget and received a diamond report and valuation, and I am in Australia too and so we will have the similar pricing from our local Tiffany and Co stores :). Might be another option if you are concerned of the quality of the stones.
