Went to buy the Paloma's Venezia Luce pendant in yg. Having almost exclusively silver/white coloured items I thought having the above would kill two birds with one stone by being able to reuse the chain with a couple of other yg pendants that have been picked up over time but never worn.

I was therefore really surprised when they said the chain was unremovable. Free of charge they did send it away to adjust both the chain and the shank to make it removable and to me it looks identical to how it was before other than the closure ring is now oval rather than round.

Is this common with Tiffany's gold jewelry? Its annoying having to take half a dozen identical chains to be able to take a range of pendants when going on an extended stay.

In general I think this is very common with most jewelry designers...
There's a difference between "pendant" vs "necklace".
Pendant is often removable whereas necklace is not.

I think on the high street, the two are often used interchangeably, but if you're talking exclusively of designer jewelry and other high end pieces, terminology for them is very important and they will distinguish them as separate items. It's just strange that they do call it a pendant here, so I dunno, I think it should be removable for this specific piece.

Did they charge you extra for changing the clasp though? I got scammed once and they charged me 30$, but I heard for a lot of buyers they don't charge you, so definitely ask about the service...

It needed the chain lengthening (comes on 16" and of cause cannot be removed from it) and they charged for that but didnt charge for adjusting it so that its removable.

They say its for stylistic reasons but I cannot tell the difference on the pendant itself

ok good. but yeah, I don't think it makes much of a difference for the "style" but rather Tiffany just wants to complicate matters... They probably just don't want you to buy one and then continue buying charms/pendants themselves so that they can make extra money on the chains...

Some of it might be that, but I also think it might be a design integrity, too. I had an earring made into a pendant by tiffany and I don't have any separate tiffany gold necklaces and I found that my other non-tiffany gold chains have a different hue to the gold.

Just another reason to keep going back... lol.
