So I received my preowned Tiffany Diamond solitaire today after sending it to Tiffany to be resized... it's supposed to be a 1.01 d colour vs1 diamond and next to my cubic zirconia fake ring it looks yellow!!!
I've uploaded pictures of side profile as it's different to tell looking face down
I called Tiffany and I've expressed my concerns but they told me to post back after xmas and they will forward to their gemologists in New York!
Because I've had the ring resized I can't return to the jeweller I bought it from..
I don't know what to do? Should I post to Tiffany or should I send to gia?
Can anyone offer advice ?
Surely d colour you should see no hint of colour at all... shouldn't it be as clear as the cz regardless of whether it's a diamond or not???
Any opinion I would really appreciate?
I've posted pictures of my ring witn flash and no flash

Since you bought a used ring, you should work with the jeweler you bought it from. If the jeweler told you it was a D color and it is not, you should get a refund as the store made false claims about their item. Tiffany rings have a serial number inside your band and also the carat weight and Tiffany should be able to look it up.

I assume the jeweler also gave you a certificate so that would also be proof they misrepresented the ring if it’s not a D color. To be sure though, I would ask the jeweler send it to GIA for an appraisal at his cost or just return the ring if they say no.

Hi I have the certificate and the serial number on the ring matches the certificate... what worries me is the ring pre- dates 2004 before the diamond was laser inscribed... I asked the jeweller before I bought it had they checked authenticity. ( this is a reputable jeweller on Bond Street) I'm questioning the colour of the diamond and wondering whether sending it to Tiffany for them to review or gia will be the best option? I can definitely see the slightest hue of yellow in the diamond and I don't believe a d colour should show any hue of yellow

Yes, you need the GIA certificate especially to validate the diamond was not swapped out. I am not saying the Bond store swapped it out, but maybe the original owner did if you say it is not a D color.

Tiffany gives you two certificates when you purchase a ring (at least mine came with two). You get a Tiffany certificate which states the ring is from Tiffany with the specs of the diamond. Then you also get an official GIA certificate which the specs match the Tiffany one exactly.

In your case, if you have the Tiffany certificate and not the GIA, what you need is for GIA to validate the diamond is the original one.

You can try sending it to Tiffany but I am not sure they deal with second hand rings as they would be doing this forever and I heard “proving authenticity” is not the business they are after. It may be different in the UK so I would give it a try.

Here is the thing which I am sure you know... To truly grade a stone, it will need to be loose, taken off the mounting. Tiffany’s mountings are really precise. If you look at your ring, and it was mounted by Tiffany, you will see each prong is cut and then bent perfect. It lays exactly flush with the diamond. There is no air gap and the metal is exact. If GIA needs to take the stone off the mount (unless there are new grading techniques now that allow the stone to stay on the mount), I would definitely be sure Tiffany remounts as it will not be the same otherwise. That’s just me because I like precision and the crispness of the mounting is really pretty.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

P.S. I just checked GIA FAQs and verified they only grade loose stones so best to work it through Tiffany and have them remount it.

One other thought, if Tiffany will help you, you may want to ask them to add the laser inscription to your diamond. I purchased my ring exactly in 2004 and the ring I chose did not have the laser inscribed on the stone. Tiffany was more than happy to do it for me. No charge.
