They are platinum.. I don't think I've ever seen diamond engagement rings set in sterling silver before

OMG! My 1.25 ct E-ring is exactly this style, and I've had it for 15 years. I designed it. I'll take a picture in a day or so. I can't deal with prongs so I wanted a high bezel set, so my jeweler came up with something for me. Glad to see that Tiff's finally catching up...ha, ha, ha!

I've heard that this is because sterling is so "flimsy" (for lack of a better word), and actually cannot reliably hold the diamond in the setting.

True, silver is pretty soft. I've seen teensy diamonds set in it before, but not like bigger center stones.

They are pretty, but there are already so many settings like it out there. I just don't get paying a premium for designer jewelry in 99% of cases though- these included.
