My dog is terrified of thunder and fireworks
I am considering getting her a Thunder shirt
I have heard mixed reviews
that it only calms the dog in minor storms
anybody have a thunder shirt for their dog ?
and does it work?

My mom bought this for her dog, Sadie, who is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks as well. At the first sound, her eyes glaze over and she heads to her spot to hide. She will drool quite a bit as well.
While the Thunder shirt works best in minor situations, it helped to take a bit of the edge off during the 4th of July festivities for her. Sadie still hid in her spot but would come out to see who had arrived. That is something she would not do without the shirt on during the fireworks. Her eyes did not glaze over as they usually do.
One afternoon while I was visiting, we were outside and began to hear distant thunder. Sadie began pulling towards the door. I suggested we try her Thunder shirt. She appeared very excited hearing that word! She sat eagerly to have the shirt put on and did not go into hiding during the storm.
Seeing even a slight calming for her during those times of high stress makes the purchase worth it.

I have a lot of experience with pressure wraps and can answer your questions. I'm a professional dog trainer who uses them regularly with dogs with fear and anxiety. The original pressure wrap was invented in 2001 by a professional dog trainer named Susan Sharpe and is a very good product. I have found the original - and the only patented pressure wrap, the Anxiety Wrap to be highly effective. It is designed much better than the Thundershirt and comes in 5 more sizes, plus it can also be custom-sized for dogs over 90 pounds and under 5 pounds. I have had clients who ordered the Thundershirt by mistake - it is little more than a snugly fitting dog coat - and we did not see any reduction whatsoever in anxious behavior, but I have never heard of the Anxiety Wrap not working. I have been using it on my own dog and recommending it to clients for a couple of years. I do recommend that you consult a knowledgeable professional however to help you with your dog. There is no magic formula or product that will cure a dog of whatever ails it. It is important that you use these products correctly under professional guidance.

I purchased the Anxiety Wrap (original version of the Thundershirt) and wow! We had a major storm come through New York yesterday and Lola amazed me. Usually she shakes, pants and hides in the corner during storms. Last night I put the wrap on for the first time and within minutes she was on the couch sleeping like a baby! She was some calm and I was so happy that she didn't have to suffer through another storm.
