I'm a little nervous ( out of nowhere) that I might be overpaying for this line bracelet pictured on the left.

It will be appraised by an independent jeweler - not the one I'm purchasing it from. This will be fine first week of January.

Originally I was told it is platinum and 4 carat total weight. I went to make a payment on it and was told it is between 3.5 and 4 carat total weight. And I just got a little nervous.

Am I justified or maybe over reacting? The bracelet costs $3995. Thanks for all responses!

There is no way to know without seeing the specs - diamond specs, what metal is the setting, grams, hallmark/maker? I don't know who you are getting this from but also remember that typically with any kind of bigger name brand jeweller you are paying a premium for the name itself.

Remember that appraisals are for different things - insurance purposes, replacement value, actual value at the time of purchase, etc. Other than (I hope) providing you with all the technical information about stones and setting, any value given by an appraisal should be taken with a grain of salt. The rule of thumb, however, is not to pay more than a third of appraised value (given that most commercial appraisals are inflated and assume you would lose the piece or need to replace it years down the road and attempting to account for some kind of appreciation).

Thanks. I will report back all the specifics once I receive them. So I guess I will have to leave it uninsured while I wait. I can't get any insurance on it until j have my paperwork submitted. But I guess it is ok because as long as I have receipt when I drop it off, the jeweler must have insurance on everything in his care.

There is no way to know the value of the tennis bracelet when we have no idea about the cut quality, color, and clarity of the diamonds. One cannot tell uch from photos alone. i would not pay $3995 for very tinted, heavily included like I1 clarity diamonds. I would hire an independent, trusted appraiser who would assess the quality of the diamonds per GIA standard and top cut per AGS0 quality.

As a minimum, I would require a no obligation inspection period and return policy for full refund in writing. Also pay by credit card, so you can get your money back in case of return.

I agree with misiikat's comments about the independent appraisal provided by the seller. That appraisal is for insurance purpose, and the appraised value is often much inflated.

Thanks. I took a risk. Hope I didn't make a mistake. I've been paying in cash to save the sales tax. I feel that the jeweler is trustworthy. Been in community for years and would not want a negative review. If I messed up, I learned a wise but costly lesson. It looks great to my untrained eye. But I guess you never know. I trust the appraiser too. So I will have an answer soon.

Curious. . . any update? It sounds reasonable to me, the best appraisal is from a Certified Gemologist Appraiser. They will use industry standard Color-clarity and don't give inflated values. Its beautiful! I love both of them especially the flower design.

I hope u werent taken for too big a ride on this, I question platinum!, maybe plat coated on silver, the diamonds , that small are almost a giveaway, there are so much in the market, Im sorry to shadow ur paraide, but I would look a little closer at ur puchase-stevie...:wondering but a little

Was it an estate piece or a new one? When it comes to estate it is very common to be given a range in carat weight. The reason is because it is hard to tell without removing stones from the setting.

It is an estate piece. I am picking it up from layaway first or second week of January. And then having it appraised by a certified gemologist appraiser. I already showed him pictures and spoke to him about the bracelet. So I will report back mid January. I think the 2 women that own the jewelry store and sold me the bracelet care tremendously about their reputation. And they have been in the jewelry industry many years. I don't think they are selling me a fake item but I don't know if I am paying a fair price. Promise to report back in a couple weeks!

I hope you are satisfied with the evaluation because the 2 bracelets look great together!

I will definitely go back to store I purchased estate piece "if" I have any doubt that the bracelet doesn't meet the standards that they described to me. I have a good feeling about it though. The store is on fb as are the 2 owners ( not related). I really think small businesses in the neighborhood don't want a poor review or trouble. I'm assuming if the bracelet is platinum over silver which I never heard of or the stones are lesser quality than I was led to believe, then I will ask for my money back. But it looks beautiful and feels beautiful in person so I'm keeping my hopes up!
