What would be your thoughts on this Bulgari watch?

Capture d’écran 2022-11-06 à 13.26.11.pngCapture d’écran 2022-11-06 à 13.25.29.png

It's from Diva's Dream collection, in rose gold with diamonds, and a technical satin strap.
I am thinking of getting it, I think it is a very pretty and feminine piece of work, but I have 3 main concerns.

I can't decide whether it's worth the price - $20 000 approximately - (in terms of its potential resale value, and about its features, especially the strap which is made of satin), and whether it's wearable during the day.
Also, I only have one other watch at the moment, a vintage cartier in yellow gold (given by my mother). So I don't know if buying a Bulgari watch when I only have this is a good idea either!

If you have any other thoughts on this watch, or comments, I'd love to hear them too!
Thank you :flowers:

I don’t think this will retain value in terms of resale. Bulgari watches tend not to retain value except perhaps for limited release watches that are usually offered only to current clients of the house in good standing. The watches that retain value generally are Rolex and Patek. But we are in recession and secondary market prices for the Rolex Daytona are starting to soften (though still above retail). My DH collects ALange & Sohn (he has a zeitwork, a steel Odysseus, a rubber strap WG Odysseus, and a grand type 1) all of which have retained value bc of scarcity.

This watch is only worth its price if you love it and will get value back via cost per wear and sheer enjoyment.

To me, Satin is strictly for evening. And, white satin is only for a certain type of dressy evening. This is a watch that one buys after the first ten watches Because of the fragile quality of the band and its limited usage. . .
and whether it's wearable during the day
Not for me. . . But again, rules are meant to be broken. If your aesthetic calls for a white satin banded watch during the day with denim jackets and doc martens, then go for it  Just be careful of color transfer

If you only have one watch in YG, a practical answer would be to pick a metal bracelet watch as your second, if your cartier is a leather band. Or vice versa. If you have to ask, I would assume that you don’t love it enough to purchase, but JMO.

However, if you truly love, adore, and cannot live without this watch, then the general rules don’t matter. Buy it and wear it whenever you want. Purchases are not always about practicality, and the heart wants what it wants  Happy shopping..

While I agree that a watch with a metal bracelet would be far more practical, if this watch sings to you, don't let anyone talk you out of it. I looked at Rolex when I bought my first watch, and I simply didn't find them appealing (I still don't).

Just because something is popular or even valuable doesn't mean it's right for YOU. A luxury purchase is about more than cost/benefit analysis

Agree with all posters above.

Personally I would not get it:
1) satin + white = I will ruin it. :P Plain and simple, even if I was being careful.
2) in the watch world, it would not hold its value
3) $20,000 not worth it to me. A medium full gold panthere Cartier watch is $25,000 USD. A medium stainless steel panthere Cartier watch with diamonds around the dial is $9600. And a medium, 2 toned, half gold, half stainless steel panthere with diamonds is $13,500.

But it is a beautiful watch. If the art of watch-making doesn't really matter to you or how well it will retain its value, maybe better to treat it as a piece of jewelry if you are seriously considering to purchase it.

It’s a beautiful watch and if you don’t plan to resell it, I wouldn’t think too much about resale value. It’s jewellery, if you’re not buying patek or AP, you would always lose money on it.
What many people don’t realize, is that you can change the strap for a new one anytime and they are usually not expensive - 100-300$. So I personally wouldn’t worry about it being damaged.

Thank you very much for all the very pertinent points you make!

As much as I love it, I'd still prefer not to feel like I'm throwing money out the window too much, and I'd still like something very portable on a daily basis..
I think I'll look at other watches first, before considering to get this one in the future!

It does, but I still had a big doubt, I wouldn't want it to end up in a cupboard like some unreasonable purchases (of much lesser value ).
It's the same for me, concerning Rolex. I didn't really like it. What I like about this Bulgari watch is its very feminine, ornamental side, which I don't find so much in other watches (but I don't have much knowledge about watches..), I find its shapes very harmonious!

Which watches did you end up choosing?

My problem is also this. Compared to the price of other watches that are made entirely of gold, it seems a bit too much.

Yes, the SA told me that it was perfectly possible to change the strap.
Maybe I should have asked if we could change to a metal bracelet (but then, that must be a whole different price range )

@PommePeche , I googled Diamond bezel watch, satin strap, and I got tons of selections, all different price points. i Also thought this selection from The Real Real illustrates the significant loss/ resale value of premier branded watches. The first link I attached will take you to the chanel watch, but then switch to ‘similar products, like a VCA one etc). My inclusion of the link is not meant to be an authenticity endorsement of any of these watches. I have no idea how to determine that. Just an example of depreciation in resale value. If you are interested in going to the secondary market, one site called watchfinders is owned by Richmont group (Which owns cartier, ALange etc) so I assume a watchfinders watch is authentic. But, there are specific watch forums that will specialize in recommended secondary market sources etc.

I went and took a look on Watchfinders and am surprised at the discount on even Cartier watches, in fact. There are some very ""affordable"" ones. For Bulgari and others too!
I'm a newbie when it comes to watches, but I don't usually see my jewelry purchases as investments in the strict sense of the word (it's mainly for the pleasure of the beauty of the objects), but it's still reassuring to know that you don't lose a ton if selling.

Have you ever ordered second-hand watches? On Watchfinders or elsewhere..

No i haven’t, but many years ago, DH and I went to the last huge tourneau sample sale where we got a men’s cartier tank francais, a JLC reverso, power reserve, skeleton back ( I believe still sold in one form or other), and an IWC portugeuser, all three for under 12K USD. … we noticed that the IWC had a scratch on the back (buffed out by IWC), but all were new. My mom picked up a stainless Rolex for my uncle at chrono24.

That’s amazing! Wonder how much those would all cost today
