Thoughts on these old Jimmy Choo bags?

Keeping them is coolish or keeping them is foolish?

I have been paring down my closet. I couldn’t even walk through it, as I had so many bags that I had run out of shelf space. I’ve successfully pared down so far from 200 bags to 121 (I just counted). These bags are next in consideration - the Jimmy Choo Malena bag. I think they are so pretty, but they are a bit heavy and bulky. Most of my collection consists of Chanel (Boy, Classic flaps, & bucket bags), Louis Vuitton monogram and colorful leather and epi leather, Hermès, Chloe, Balenciaga, and YSL. I’m also consigning a Chloé Marcie that is too big for me, and pink leather Gucci soho hobo. I tell you this to help you understand my collection and where it’s going and where it’s been, not to try to sell anything here. I just need an opinion, because I wish I could keep all my bags, but I don’t want to be a hoarder. I want my living space to be more minimal. Although emotionally difficult and time consuming, this process feels very cleansing to me. I can use some opinions on whether these bags are actually cool or whether consigning them is a good idea. 50D491DF-AA03-4408-A286-500691A2C18B.jpeg

Thank you for starting this post. It saddens me how Jimmy Choo is just not popular anymore. These bags are in beautiful condition. I am a hoarder of many bags, because I cannot just love 1 or 3 brands. I have 3 Jimmy Choo's; 2 Rikki's and a 3rd bag. My bags are in great condition and I tried selling them about 3 years ago and was refused by a FP and Yoogis. Hopefully you will have success at selling these bags. I have been slowly selling or giving away some of my bag inventory. I am realising that I don't use many of my bags. The Chanels b/c my work environment is super casual, and for a night on the town, the Chanel stays in the closet because I'm not so dainty. I like attending sporting events and concerts. Many of my high brow bags do not fit this lifestyle. Can you imagine juggling a beer or mixed cocktail, along with a plate of nachos with a $5K bag on my arm... no way!

I just looked at this thread because I just fell in love a few days ago with a Fendi Baby Spy that is now in my possession. That bag, too, was one of the "it" bags of its day. So, I truly feel what goes around comes around even in our closets. Those Choo bags are gorgeous, and the fact that they are considered vintage, makes it even better.

I have had to take many of my bags to local consignment shops and these will go there as well, due to Jimmy Choo and other brands not being accepted by major online consignment stores.

A Fendi Baby Spy (vintage??) was actually one of my more recent purchases!0DA54E6A-2646-412D-8276-729FEFBB7C8F.jpeg

I appreciate a vintage bag, but the weight and bulk of the Choo bags is my main concern.

If you no longer use them, sell. If you have to think of a reason to reach for them as opposed to automatically including them in your purse rotation, then they no longer fit with your current lifestyle so unless they have sentimental value, why keep them? Acquisition is soooo much more fun and easier than letting things go

It’s far easier and exciting to click “buy” as opposed to taking and uploading photos, creating an ad, and attempting to meet interested buyers, or driving to consignments shops around town that take 50% commission. They are pretty to look at, but I don’t believe I ever used either of these bags more than once. The consignment shop I was hoping to use won’t even take them.

Thank you, dear TPF friends. I have another load of bags to take to consignment next week! Do you recommend Poshmark? I’ve never tried it. I have used eBay in the past, but I’m a little scared now, and the consignment stores in town pay so little!

I am starting to think you'd get a fairer price if you sold directly. You're making such a massive loss on bags that are in excellent condition.
It's more time and effort, of course, but at this stage it would be worthwhile.
I cannot advise as to which platform you should use because I've never sold a bag, but I'm happy to see that you're considering direct sales now. :flowers:

Edit: Have you considered Depop as well? I know a lot of people prefer to sell that way!

Hello, dear jblended,
I have not heard of Depop before. I will certainly look into that mode of sale. As always, thank you for your support. :hugs:

I have been using Poshmark. I managed to unload 20+ bags in 2 months. I don't sell high though mostly under $100 except for a Balenciaga $250. I am also trying to sell a Choo bag for 200+ let's see how it goes. Poshmark takes hefty 20% commission but their service is acceptable. I think they are trying to close counterfeit/scammer loopholes like they would screen any listings for Dior, Balenciaga, etc. I have to be careful with unjustified returns I would film my items while packing. With that said, yeah, it feels liberating to get rid of stuff. It's work to sell but somehow I enjoy photographing and selling. Last but not least I don't have crystal ball I don't know if Choo bag will make a popular comeback and hence more value. If you simply want to get rid without selling let me know I can help
