Hi, all! Any thoughts, tips, pluses/minuses, pros/cons on this leather would be much appreciated. Can't decide between Gulliver and Box. This would be for a Kelly by the way. Thanks in advance

Assuming this is an older bag, since Gulliver is no longer available. Gulliver is beautiful, but soft for a Kelly, so soft in fact that opening and closing clasp can be more tricky than with stiffer leather like Box. I love Gulliver and could put up this inconvenience. Gulliver is much rarer than Box for a Kelly.

Box can vary depending on vintage. We have a Box leather through the ages thread you may want to check out. have 5 Box bags, all different (besides the styles) because they're from different eras.

The same can be said for Gulliver (or Swift - which I was onvinced by my craftsperson are the same, merely renamed) . It depends on the size of the bag and it's structure as how 'relaxed' it is. I would have thought a Routurne would be wonderful. I can't imagine a Sellier. It's obviously not as shiny as Box, it looks andfeels almost velvety.

Very different bags, both lovely. Gulliver (earlier version of Swift, you can see the pun :)) is soft and makes a wonderful squishy Kelly (the bigger, the squishier).
Box is structured. I do happen to love retourné Box Kellys. Something nice about the combo of structure and relax.
Still this choice will probably be down to how much structure and stiffness you want in your bag.

Yes it is an older bag (32 retourne) and the contender is a 28 box sellier. I am not a super fan of sellier but in a 28 I might be able to close 1 eye . Plus it'd make a nice evening bag but Gulliver... I'm intrigued. Thanks for your inpit on the softness. Sounds amazing

I haven't been on the forum for a while, I'll look up for that thread on Box. The Gulliver is on a 32 retourne and I too think it would not work with sellier.

I love me a retourne 32 Box Kelly.. but the one I found in a fab condition is a 28 Box sellier and 32 retourne Gulliver. I so far only have retourne Kellies as sellier somehow doesn't really speak to me.

It seems it could be the battle is more between the Sellier and the Returne then rather than the leather. At least they are the more fitting ways round and you have options.

I think a 32 is as small as I'd want to go in a Retourne. and a Sellier 28 is still a traditional day bag size unless it's a casual affair.

Please let us know you've chosen and do show us too, they both sound lovely :flowers:

If you don't like Sellier don't do it! And in all honesty 28 cm box sellers aren't crazy rare. Gulliver is nice in a 32. I have always wanted one of the early issues of the Raisin color, many of which are in Gulliver with Acajou color stitching and are totally beautiful.
