I still want a DBTY solitaire necklace to wear every day. The 16 inch is too long to rest in that little hollow and most of my other neckalaces are 16 inches.

I can't figure out if 14.5 or 15 inches is the best choice.

If I order online from Tiffany's, will they shorten for me? Or do I have to talk to a real person? LOL....

TIA!

I think you should go into the store if you can and maybe you should see if they can shorten it to 15" since it WILL stretch over time. Believe it or not, my 16" DBTY necklace I've been wearing for years is now almost 17"!!!! I inherited it from my Mother who wore it every day for about 6 years and I've been wearing it now for 4 years. I purchase another 16"-er to wear with it and it's about an inch shorter than my original piece.

You can what I mean in the photo......I'm wearing both my DBTY necklaces with my VC&A (which I returned as it was too short).

Hope this helps!

I have never heard of a chain stretching? How is that possible? I have chains that I wear frequently, not everyday, and none of them have stretched?

I lengthened mine, I have two 16", both platinum, one single sapphire and the smaller 5 diamond. I wear them both together daily and I lengthened the diamond one, it hangs slightly lower than the sapphire now. They did it within a few weeks and were so nice about it.

I haven't asked about shortening anything though.

HTH! :flowers:

SMom, I love how you layer the 3 necklaces, they look great together. But doesn't it drive you crazy when they get tangled up?

Actually, it does and that's why I no longer wear three. Two don't seem to tangle as much as three and when they do it's easy enough to just run my finger through the chains and that straightens them out.....

I didn't know either. I thought my Mother's was an 18". As I said, one has been worn consecutively for over 10-years and the other for just a few. The one that's older is the one that's longer. When I brought it into Tiffany to have the clasp repaired is when I found out that fine gold chain can stretch over time. For me, it's not an issue because I like the two lengths worn together.

One thing that might contribute to the "stretching" is that my Mother wore and now I wear this necklace ALL THE TIME. It isn't removed at all. I wear it at night, in the shower, swimming, to the gym. It gets tugged on to straighten out and played with at times....perhaps this "handling" is what does it as the years go by. :shrugs:

Well, that's really wonderful to hear actually...with all that wear (and even tugging) they stand up so well! Btw, they look lovely on you. May I ask what size the stones are if you remember? I don't want anything bigger than what you have.

They really do hold up well. I've had mine for about 13-14 years now and still wear it all the time. Mine is platinum and had it shortened when it was first purchased. Don't think it has stretched at all. Your local store will shorten it for you free of charge.
