This just in "Arrest in JonBenet Ramsey case"

Ok my prediction is, he didnt do it. Alot of stuff he said does not sound right. He said he drugged her...although they tox screen at autopsy found NO drugs. He was not living in Colorado at the time of the murder he lived in Alabama. I think he is a media nut who wants to be involved. We shall see.

The Boulder DA's press conference starts in five minutes. I think there is a lot of misinformation going around... I read that he did live in Colorado at one time, and then I read that he did not. It will be interesting to see what the DA's office has to say.

BANGKOK, Thailand - A former American school teacher said publicly Thursday he was with JonBenet Ramsey when she was killed and called the 6-year-old's death "an accident," a stunning admission that should help answer 10 years of questions in the unsolved murder case.

John Mark Karr, 41, will be taken within the week to Colorado, where he will face charges of first degree murder, kidnapping and child sexual assault, Ann Hurst of the Department of Homeland Security told a news conference in Bangkok.
"I was with JonBenet when she died," John Mark Karr told reporters afterward, visibly nervous and stuttering as he spoke. "Her death was an accident."
Asked if he was innocent of the crime, Karr said: "No."
Karr confessed to the killing after his arrest Wednesday at his downtown Bangkok apartment by Thai and American authorities, said Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul, head of Thailand's immigration police.
He said Karr insisted his crime was not first-degree murder but that she died during a kidnapping attempt that went awry.
"He said it was second-degree murder. He said it was unintentional. He said he was in love with the child, she was a pageant queen," Suwat said.
Karr declined to say what his connection was to the Ramsey family. Dressed in a turquoise polo shirt and khaki trousers, he appeared ashen with an expressionless look on his face.
An attorney for the Ramsey family said Wednesday that Karr once lived near the family in Conyers, Ga.

I agree about the misinformation. On our national news last night they reported that there was a DNA match.
I'm happy with the way the DA handled the press confrence.
I guess it will be a lot of waiting, and people digging for the story for the next few weeks.

From what I've read, it appears the press caught wind of this investigation before the DA was ready to announce it. That is part of the reason they moved so fast on the arrest- they were about to be outed by the press. Let's hope this guy is not out for his fifteen minutes of fame because that would just victimize the Ramsey family more.

He looks like a werido .......I am glad they finally found the killer(supposedly) but he looks off. I thiink like selena mentioned , he may be doing this for 15mins of fame....we will see

Some important points to remember, I am not a lawyer but I do work as a forensic psychologist and do a lot of consulting for trials and criminal investigations.

The DA in Boulder (Mary Lacy) has a good reputation. Her predecessor, (who was run out of office) tried to crucify the Ramseys and refused to even entertain the thought that anyone but them was involved in the crime. This also corrupted the police's ability to gather evidence because the investigation was skewed in one direction only and a lot of valuable evidence was lost. That is the main reason the grand jury refused to indict anyone when they met in 2003. Mary Lacy has publicly stated that she believes in the intruder theory in this case and has supported the Ramseys pretty consistently.

That much said, trying to coordinate an arrest clear across the world is no small thing. I personally do not feel what this guy said in his so-called "confession" is that important right now. What is important is that he's reportedly been sending emails for some months to the Ramsey family and also to someone in Colorado, who was alarmed enough to turn the emails over to the authorities.

We also know that this individual has an outstanding warrant in California after he was a no-show in court in 2001 on child porn charges. He was teaching school in the Bay Area when this happened. His own father admits he did not know whether his son was alive or dead- and apparently he also has children and has had his parental rights terminated. This guy obviously has some serious issues.

With a case of this magnitude, I believe this DA has a lot more probable cause than she is revealing. You just can't involve law enforcement and diplomatic authorities from across the world in a case on this level with mere speculation. There must be other facts that point to this guy's involvement. He reportedly started a job on TUESDAY teaching children in Thailand and one would expect he had to fill out paperwork in order to get that job. I would go out on a limb and speculate that the authorities somehow got a handwriting sample and have compared it to that infamous ransom note that was left behind. An international effort involving the FBI, INS, and the diplomatic corps of two countries is not just undertaken willy-nilly because some whacko has decided to start blabbing about this case. Believe it or not, this happens with all high profile cases- there are always nuts that come out of the woodwork.

This case is too important for this DA to just arrest this person on a whim. I think they are being smart by sealing the warrants and keeping the information quiet. It will all come out sooner or later- in any event, this guy is already in trouble back to 2001 so he needs to be brought back here to answer to that matter regardless. I'm just relieved he is not teaching those children in Thailand.

i hope that this is the right guy so the family of jonbenet can finally find closure and get some justice for this awful crime. It appalls me that peodophiles think they can come and go as they please with no care in the world for the unspeakable crimes they commit

Well said Roo.
Excellent.

Here's a weird one for you all. This is a psychic's drawing of the person she saw as being responsible for this crime. The drawing is from 1998:

I'm off to court for a few hours....

I agree pretty much with Northernbelle

I'm sorry but I don't understand how anyone can really think this guy actually did it. I think he just wants some media attention. His comments in the aforementioned article SOUND like someone making something up just to get attention.

If he did it, why did Patsy write the note? And it WAS pretty much proven that she wrote the note although they tried to backtrack on that. I doubt she would really cover up for some man who killed her child.
