The Tudors: Showtime's new series about Henry Viii

  1. Coming in April:
MUCH ADO: Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII and Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn

Showtime is getting ready to unveil "The Tudors," a lavish, sex-drenched soap chronicling the wild escapades of a young Henry VIII. In a bold move, the pay-cable channel will debut its big-budget show against HBO's "The Sopranos."
  2. I can't wait to watch this series. I'm kind of on a "Tudor" kick right now. I'm listening to "The Other Boleyn Girl" in my car and reading a book about about Catherine of Aragon.
  3. Canada doesn't get Showtime, but hopefully Canada will pick up the show, too.

(Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir is a good book.
When I visited Hamptons Court Palace, I was only intested in the Henry VIII part of it.)
  4. Sounds like a good show. I still have free Showtime until July so I'll definitely catch it.
  5. Can't wait to see this. Love johnathan rhys meyers!
  6. I was on a Tudor kick last year---read a lot of books about Henry VIII, his wives, and his children (Alison Weir), and Elizabeth and Mary by Jane Dunn. This year I am into French kings--Louis XIV-XVI to be exact--but did recently read The Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance as a break from all my nonfiction reading. So I will definitely try to catch "the Tudors" but I hope it will not be, you know, historically inaccurate. I really hate that!
  7. I have always loved Tudor history. Haven't we all?

However, never in a million years, would I have pictured the young, good looking and athletic Henry VIII looking like Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
  8. jonathan rhys meyers is hot hes the main reason i am going to watch it haha  but it looks like it could be good,,,, i dont usually like period piece type things but im ging to give it a shot!
  9. Yeah, I always picture the young Henry XIII as looking more like....Kenneth Branagh, maybe. Or Prince Harry!
  10. I cannot wait!

Did anyone read "the Autobiography of Henry VIII"
That was a great read (by Margaret Brown)
  11. Oooooh that sound great! I just started "the Constant Princess" about Kathrine of Aragon also and find myself completely fascinated by the Tudors. Can't wait for the show. Thanks for the "heads up"!

im watching the 1st one right now!!
  13. David Starkey's book is really great as well! I'm currently in the middle of it. Too bad I don't have Showtime, although I have to admit, seeing the way they are marketing the series, I don't know if I really want to watch it.
  14. I watched both episodes yesterday. More than a tad racey! It is showtime after all, so I should have known. But I had hoped to watch it with my family. But I'm far to embarrassed to watch with my teenagers. It was more of a soap opera, than the history Channel fare I was looking for. Yet, I'm afraid I may be hooked!
  15. haha sellmysoul i kind of agree SOOO racy like soft core porn and then some
but showtime is always that way, everytime im watching the L word my parents come in right when the girls are having sex, im like its a SHOW im not gay watching porn in the middle of the day with the door open i swear haha!!

    good show tho!
