Hi all..
I was (of course) looking up arrow jewelry and Anita ko popped up, and I saw her Panther jewelry, which reminded me of Cartier.

Then at bluenile I saw trinity pieces. The earrings especially were gorgeous and classic.

My train of thought continued... Is Cartier the start of these trinity pieces? Is this an exclusive design? Can the same be said for the panthere?

This is not meant to be a Cartier thread for the Cartier forum but rather a discussion on the icon of the trinity and what everyone's opinions are! Curious to see!

EDIT: sorry for the title, autocorrect got the best of me.

I can't comment on the origins and if it's Cartier's specifically, but this is an interesting conversation to start. There are so many designs out there which are so similar at varying price points. It's so hard to tell who the original designer was anymore.

Cartier trinity is a historical design from 1924 but after nearly a century, numerous inspired designs have appeared. Who knows if it was truly the first iteration though?

Nothing in jewelry design is all that unique. Yes, Cartier marketed it as the Trinity in 1924 but it goes by other names ... rolling ring, puzzle ring, Russian wedding band ...

Big cats have also been used but the Duchess of Windsor's panther pieces really created a demand for the designs.

I'm Russian and always knew the design as a Russian wedding ring. Didn't know about Cartier Trinity until I got older and started collecting fine jewelry.

When I got a trinity ring, my mom laughed and thought I was going back to my "roots" lol..

I agree. I'm always confused as to who started what or if I'm accidentally wearing an inspired piece.

I've never heard of the term "puzzle rings"- I'm going to check that out now-- I always have a hard time knowing when it's worth buying a "designer piece" since the dates blur. I really like the earrings blue Nile has in the trinity style.

I didn't realize it was the royal family who put Cartier panthere on the map. I hope there are good pictures of the Dutchess with these pieces on Google. I know how I'm going to spend my Friday night [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Lol! My family responded the same way when they saw me with the love bangle. I always made it a point to not wear bangles as I saw it as a traditional icon. How the times have changed!

It's frustrating, especially considering how often there's been instances of big companies copying small ones. I'd much rather support the original artist, but often it's difficult to track down and determine. Or, if I am familiar with the original design, but prefer the copycat because of small adjustments like a different thickness, material, stone, or texture, I'm in a quandary.

The best jewelry are the ones done to YOUR specifications.
