I just watched this a few weeks ago. It's very interesting to get a glimpse of some of the women who are in that circle! I'll always love Daphne Guinness' avant garde style. I would love to have some of those designer croquis sketches too!

Just started it's fascinating! What's the difference between ready to wear & haute coture?

Ready-to-wear are clothes you can buy off the rack at a boutique, less complex design elements, in a set size range that you will have to tailor after buying to get a perfect fit.

Haute couture are custom made, often more complex and intricate in design, a significant portion of it is hand-done, tailored to fit you, a legally protected class according to the Fédération française de la couture

Chanel has a video on youtube that gives a very small peek into the process of making a Haute Couture Jacket.

@cerulean blue but im guessing just going to a seamstress or tailor & having them sew me a dress (even a fancy one) is not haute coture?
Yes, that would just be bespoke. With haute couture, these brands need to abide by standards like minimum 50 looks per season, having an atelier employing a certain number of technicians and seamstresses, and perform multiple fittings, but they might be more lax due to the pandemic.

it is also the law of supply and demand. Only a few made, priced in the tens of thousands and ONLY available to a few. I suppose if you have maids, butlers, drivers, hair stylists, chefs, masseurs, personal trainers...you name it...you have to have something to do with your time, lol.

Thanks for sharing! I’m going to watch this tonight. Has anyone watched the show "7 Days Out" on Netflix? It came out a few years ago and is about the preparation for major events - one of which was the Chanel haute couture show (I think SS 17).
