The Real Mad Men of Advertising - Smithsonian Channel

Jan 20, 2012
I'm only a half hour into the first episode and I'm riveted. It's like a cultural history of consumerism. I think it explains a lot about people's attitudes toward different topics and habits.

The first episode is about the 1950s. They explained why family and home were so important - reminded me of the child-free threads. They are talking about smoking now and how advertising got so many people to smoke. It shows you how some thinking that is so unacceptable now was perfectly acceptable in previous decades.

Anyone else watching?
