Can anyone tell me why the "new" jackie is 3x the price of the Bouvier I bought a few years back. I love the shape of the bag, but just don't understand the price hike. Is it bigger? I know exotic leathers are more expensive but that doesn't explain the price of the canvas traditional print. I'm not ranting here just looking for an explanation. Thanks tPF'ers:smile1:

I also have a small 'old' Jackie/Bouvier. The new ones are certainly not cheap.

Well, the large is HUGE even compared to the large 'old' Jackie at 48cm X 39cm. That's almost as large as my travel tote. But maybe the HW and bits and pieces are expensive. Who knows?

I noticed the iridescent ones for this Autumn/Fall are slightly less expensive (and even more beautiful IMO) so maybe they they rethought the price point.

Gucci pricing seems a bit arbitrary. On the catalouge the 18K gold horse-bit bracelet is £2,700 but shopping on line is £3,132

That's a steep increase even allowing for the rise in gold prices and it's original large sum

Looking at prices 2005 compared with 2009 many companies seem to have put up their prices out of line with inflation or common sense. Generally most 'normal' line bags were near £1k but there was that 1K mark they didn't cross (or only just) now some of those same type bags are closer to £1.5 K - across the board of brands - that's a 33% increase. Maybe they put them up so high so that selling them 50% off in the sale still pays profits handsomely. People who are buying at sale and think they are getting bargains are sometimes paying what I paid for a full-on retail just 3 years ago.

But the sales theory does not explain why the LV Alma vernis went up hundreds of pounds on one jump or Chanel prices have gone through the roof. Look at Hermes Birkin prices we are talking serious increase on the same bag.

Where luxury goods are concerned I'm not sure the model is the simple: material+labour+ overheads+profit=retail price

more like - think of a number and see what happens.

The new jackies have hand stitching and a lot of bells and wistles (bamboo closure, etc). If you look at the latest ones from Fall, some of them dont have the binding stitching and closure is simpified, so it is probably cheaper to produce, hense the slightly lower price. I love the New Jackie, but yes the price is killing me :(

There's also almost £300 difference for a short brass chain and a few cm flap on the lizzard wallet V the lizzard wallet? That almost doubles the price. And yes, I've seen both IRL and there's not much real difference.

IMO the bag without hand stitching looks better. But that's MO.:p

I also think the New Jackies are overpriced. I would definitely buy one if they were more in the $1700-1900 range. Supposedly the pricepoint is due to the handstitching but as mentioned above, Gucci seems to be rethinking that and some of the fall versions are less detailed... Its all very confusing because the Jackie prices seem to vary between gucci.com and NM, BG, etc.

For what its worth, I also think the large New Jackie is a bit too big and the small a bit too small; wish there was a medium size, lol!

The New Jackie is definitely on my wish list, but at that price it will probably remain there for quite awhile. Especially since I was looking at the Guccissima leather one. I'd love the python one, but that's only if I win the lottery.
